    Default Which Comics Have The Best First 6 Issues?

    What ongoing series (including runs) have the strongest first 6 issues that...


    -Hooks the reader instantly

    -Sets up the protagonist and their supporting characters perfectly

    -Establishes a fully realized setting

    Examples:

    Y the Last Man
    Starman (94)
    Preacher
    Astro City
    Bone
    Fables
    Saga
    Transmetropolitan
    Chew
    Locke and Key

    The Walking Dead has (imo) the perfect first arc. You could almost have it as a 6 issue mini. It introduces the characters, the setting, starts up plots that carry forth over the rest of the series and has great artwork to back it up. It's just a strong opener.

    I'd agree. It's a bit weird that the artist left and a new guy took over for 187 issues. It's a bit odd for both of them in that Tony Moore hasn't done anything else on that level so he's defined by drawing less than five percent of a notable run, while Charlie Adlard did so much work, at a very high level, but could not surpass the impact of that first volume.
