Last issue is today…if you haven’t introduced yourself to Samantha the brown bear then you are truly missing a great series…though I am sure this work will be collected in TPB form….I will probably get that one too!!!!
so... it's not 'just another "horror" story?' What's it about then?
Generally no longer into blood guts and gore stuff, which is why I passed on this... apparently, I am mistaken. True?
Age/Bronze, Age/Reptiles, Alex&Ada, Anne Bonnie, Astro City, Bone, Briggs Land, Cerebus, Criminal, Courtney Crumrin, Eleanor & the Egret, Fables, Fatale, Fell, Grass Kings, Green Valley, Goon, Gotham Midnight, Groo, Hellboy, Hillbilly, Incognegro, Jack Staff, JL8, Jonah Hex, Kane, Lazarus, Little Nemo, Lone Wolf, Next Wave, Popeye, Powers, Princess Ugg, Resident Alien, SiP, Squirrel Girl, Stray Bullets, 10G, Thief of Thieves, Tuki, Uncle Scrooge, Usagi, Velvet
It’s about a small town with the innocence of 50s America that suddenly has that innocence shattered through violence. This is told through anthropomorphisms. The main character is Samantha the bear.
It does have blood and guts in it… I’m not going to lie to you. It’s a pretty graphic comic book series. The violence isn’t done for the sake of violence. I thought the first five issues were excellent. The sixth issue that just came out didn’t quite make it for me. I felt it wrapped up everything a little too nicely for me.
I still feel it was an excellent series with wonderful art that gave me a little bit of happiness for a few bucks.
spoilers:end of spoilers It's probably a good book to re-read in total to catch missing details and get the point, fully.
I have to agree that the ending didn't quite do it for me, either. Part of me feels like it could have used another issue or 2 to expand upon, but then, maybe not? Maybe the point is how cleanly and easily it wraps up, you know? The town being basically innocent and wanting to be blissfully ignorant and safe. The killer truly being an amateur up against a pro. And Sam truly being a sociopath.
Don’t get me wrong…it’s still better than 99 percent of the other comics I read and it’s definitely worth a purchase. Horvath has true talent and I hope I see more from him.
