Beyond the Carters' relation to Steve Rogers/Captain America, Peggy in the comics was part of the French resistance to the Vichy regime in France that surrendered to and colluded with Nazi Germany, as opposed to the MCU version being British and assigned as some kind of liaison to the American Special Scientific Reserve.
So, Peggy in comics was a former flame for Steve as well?

Yes. She was his love interest in some silver age stories that were set in World War II (Steve's present day storyline was in Avengers at the time).

Peggy was also a member of the Avengers Mansion support crew for a time (back in the 90s), serving as the Avengers communications officer.
