Wow, I didn't know that. That is a touching detail indeed.

It was in one of the Giant-Size issues from the 2000s I think. John and Ororo had a confrontation in the DR, and Ororo is pretty much ready to leave as she misses her home. John overhears her with his enhanced senses and ends up going to the attic where she is staying (is it empty at this point) and he gives her a cactus, telling her how it is sharp and rough on the exterior, but sweet on the inside and it's juices could save your life, and how it reminds him of her. It inspired Ororo to stay and start collecting plants. It was picked up at the beginning of Ed Brubaker's run, when Ororo gifts James a vibranium knife in return.

Yeah, but so is Green Lantern!

Trying to recall if we ever saw James with facepaint during this era of X-FORCE besides when he was mind-controlled in issue 50...

GIANT SIZE X-MEN vol1 #4. Good stuff for John/Ororo fans - really fleshes out Proudstar's brief time in the mansion as it shows him exploring the backgrounds of his teammates. The attic/plant moment seems to contradict the Bolton portions of the CLASSIC X-MEN retelling of their training, unless the time period is longer than it appeared.

Both were written by Claremont, so I am guessing that we can just assume there was a longer time between they joining the team and his death.

Yeah, but Green Lantern doesn't have the cultural connotations to a specific group that Warpath has.

I'm still yearning for John to have a moment where he says "Who am I? I'm CAPTAIN AMERICA, haven't you heard, kid?"

How did the adaptation of Proudstar fare on THE GIFTED?
