It seems like the Patriots are definitely not the gold standard anymore. So much so that no one seems to want to even attempt to bring them back to competitive levels. I was reading stories online that people from the Bills, Cardinals and Bengals have all declined to interview with the team for the GM spot.

A big issue could be the owner. A number of young executives could view working for Kraft as a lose situation. A fact that Kraft treated the last guy who was GM/Coach like crap , pushing him out after 20+ seasons and 6 Super Bowl trophies. Then news he possibly warned Atlanta to not take Belichick , so....they could be wary of working for him.

I suspect it has to do with the pressure and expectations of the fandom in New England as well. Who wants to follow Belichick? That's like being the guy who goes in after George Washington, you are doomed.
*An interesting side note to the presidents, that I didn't realize - John Adams and his son are the only US presidents of the first twelve who never owned slaves.Every day is a gift, not a given right.
