Default 2028 - your hopes and/or predictions for his 90th anniversary

    It's only 4 years away.

From here in early/mid 2024, what are your hopes and / or predictions for Superman's 90th anniversary in 2028?

    I'll go first:

    1. A theatrical feature film sequel to the hopefully wildly successful Superman2025 movie. With full-on Brainiac this time.

    2. An official anniversary issue (which the 70th, 75th, and 85th did not have). What issue range will Action Comics be in during 2028?

    3. Rocksteady releases their epic solo Superman video game that is every bit as revolutionary for Clark as the Arkham games were for Bruce.

My hope is that we get a new origin summary leaning into his status as an immigrant and a enthusiastic examination of America as the land of opportunity.

Complete erasure of the current "continuity" that has existed in different forms since 1986 and a new continuity that restores the iconic Superman to comics. This won't happen, though, especially with the looming copyright expiration.

So this would be looking at the verse either as though Crisis hadn't happened or it was a conflict with no verses destroyed

Either would work for me, or an entirely new universe that starts the DCU over from scratch and starts with day one for each character. Superman's debut, The Batman's first case, Wonder Woman's arrival in man's world. No sidekicks or leagues for at least a year or so, Clark/Superman/Lois triangle restored, etc.

Isn’t this sort of what we’re getting with Absolute Comics?
“Look, you can’t put the Superman #77s with the #200s. They haven’t even discovered Red Kryptonite yet. And you can’t put the #98s with the #300s, Lori Lemaris hasn’t even been introduced.” — Sam
“Where the hell are you from? Krypton?” — Edgar Frog

A Superman sequel with Corenswet with Brainiac as the main antagonist would be nice.

You jest, but would it actually be surprising if Disney bought WBD, and therefore obtained DC comics, making such a thing possible? I see they're working together on a subscription bundle - Disney+, the also Disney-owned Hulu, and Max, all in one package.

Yeah, with this in mind, I can see the focus being on the legacy Supermen (Jon, Conner, and Kenan) rather than Clark, who'll only be five years away from going public domain.

Yes and no. Changes to the premise but not a return to the original premise. Because of the rights ending. The effort IIRC is meant to create "new" characters from those whose rights go public. The names remain but origin story changes and perhaps names? As in one rumor has Kal being names Caleb by his adopted family. And being African American. A true re-imaging of the characters. It isn't too early either as if the new versions don't work there is time to try others.

Beginning January 1st, 2034, anybody may reprint the first six issues of Action Comics, and use characters and elements from said issues in original works, as long as they don't infringe on trademarks (such as by having the Superman logo on the cover). In 2025, everything published in 1939 becomes public domain, etc. Nothing restricts DC Comics from continuing to publish Superman, or suing you for trademark violation or for using characters and elements still under copyright. There's a reason everything Mickey Mouse related this year has been a fair-use parody you could have done last year, too.
