Jean Grey in the words of Walt Whitman, from his masterpiece Leaves of Grass, "Song of Myself" (51 and 52):
"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
"Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you."
Well, that does explain her more overpowered non-Phoenix moments.

Like a Red Dragon, The Phoenix shall Soar in 2024!
“It’s Jean being big and awesome.” ‘Nuff said.
Can’t wait to read this book.
Thank you, love. And I'm loving that Tom referenced Hellion in a positive and hopeful light!
We're truly living!
'Nuff said, indeed. I can't get over the reverence with which he is regarding and treating her. This is going to be a banger era for her.
Jean has often referred to Phoenix in the third person, even when manifesting that aspect of herself. Part of that is due to trauma and guilt, while part of it is due to the transcendent nature of her being. (Even Christ referred to God in contradictory terms, one minute referring to himself as one with God, and the next stating, to paraphrase, 'I am not my Father." Ordinary words and concepts can't properly describe this level of transcendence.
I just knew we could bet the barn on Tom when he noted that Jean in X-Factor was still Phoenix. That was a clue; a small clue, but a clue nonetheless.

She said now and forever.
Wasn't this fact already established in the Here Comes Tomorrow miniseries? I guess they are reiterating it.
An interesting interview. I always enjoy hearing the thoughts of editors and other creators.
Hoping Phoenix and Silver Surfer finally have their long-awaited encounter that Byrne wanted to give us in X-Men: The Hidden Years.
