Sure, but those could be useful anyway and characters' powers are always being updated.
And they still had options like Hijack or Trinary who also control tech.

Writers want to make their marks by introducing new characters. It's always been the case. You could've made the same argument about Trinary's existence in X-Men Red when they could have used Hijack. There used to be that Acolyte Milan they could've brought back and he could've filled the role as well.

Yeah the X-offices never learn and always want to make new mutants that their office will be known for and the is just like clock work.

    New young student to mentor.

New new mutants to interact with OGs

Even though we already have a bunch that need development.

It's one of the main issues of the X-offices after AvX.

They need an editor that impose a ban regarding new characters, bevause it's something that X-office need desperately.

Weird that Feral isn't on any of the variant covers. Also strange to have team with 4 blonde white dudes in this day and age.

To my knowledge, there were no female Indian mutants from a diversity perspective, she brought something new to the franchise. As it stands, Xyber looks to be the fourth blonde (white?) male on the same team

    So happy for Cecilia!

Weird that Feral isn't in any of the variant covers. I wonder if something happens to her in the first issue.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I think this is intentional given the nature of the book.

Depends on how you view Karima. They could have also made Kavita Rao a mutant in X-Men Red, no need to introduce a new character.

Hard to blame them knowing they could get some money out of it, even if the character doesn't become the new Kamala.
IIRC Weir and Defilippis got some bucks because Match appeared half a second in the Dark Phoenix movie.

In addition to Havok, Angel, Pyro, Frenzy, and Feral, the new variant covers also reveal two more recruits: reliable X-Man Dr. Cecilia Reyes and Xyber, a new character whose electronic-based powers are essential to the team’s covert missions. Whether they join for fame, money, or to truly make a difference, they’ll band together against emerging mutant factions like the Mutant Underground and X-Term. But mutants know better than anyone to be wary of political machinations, and their loyalty will be tested right off the bat when they find themselves on opposite sides of former friends…
So looks like Mutant Underground and X-Term might be comprised of former mutant heroes. If I had to guess, one of them will be HELLION.

There's only one way to view Karima and she is not a mutant

Also where are you getting that Kavita is a mutant? Im not seeing that anywhere. She definitely ddint appear in Tom Taylor's book and if its something from the recent X-men Red, that came 4-5 years after the original and was not a thing when Trinary was created

Don't you all read the interviews and articles?

These stories are pitched not mandated. As Brevoort said in an interview: He will advise but usually if the pitch is solid they will go with it. Sure the Editor and Co. can tell a writer to use/not use a particular character but then they'll be forcing the writer to change a particular story arc or plot they had.

Also...when pitching a story a writer may want to use a particular character but cannot because another writer has "dibs".

And...it might be easier for the writer to put a brand new character in the the mix among other established characters. A character the writer feels strongly for and can develop in full.

Plus bringing in new IPs is always a plus for the Publisher. It's a calculated risk that may or may not pay off.

Do I wish Trinary was in this? Yes. Am I bummed she isn't and we have a new "techno-type" character instead? No at all. It is what it is.

It seems that the new mandate is bloat the franchise even further with new characters that will be wallpaper in a couple of years. Oh well, at least Cece is pretty cool, I might give this title a look.
