Post What happen to DC team books these days?

I just realized how less DC team books they have published (due to artist-heavy burden or couldn't find any other artists from Marvel) as opposed to Marvel where there are 5 X-team books (6 during the Krakoa age).

For the team we got here are the current state:

    Bird of Prey - EXCELLENT
    Titans - DECENT
Justice Society - DELAYED FOREVER AND EVER (Maybe it won't come out again)
    Justice League - NONE
Suicide Squad - Was only a mini

Honestly, these are way lesser than in Marvel where X-office have no issues in publish more X-team books than the current state from Marvel.

I think it goes to show that Marvel has been better at building characters within a team books vs. DC where they mostly use the bigger name or two to sell a team book then fail to develop the other characters.

There is also Outsiders which is mediocre imo. It's just X-books in general are team oriented especially the big 6.

Because the market justifies if not demands that there be multiple X-Men Team Books. People are going to buy X-Calibur, X-Factor, X-Force, adjectiveless X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, some sort of young Mutants books, etc. DC doesn't have that due to neglect and demographics. The closest thing that DC had to X-Men in the 80s/90s were Titans and LoSH and they are shadows of themselves. LoSH in particular was a victim of constant revamps and reboots due to Didio who oversaw three different reboots (Threeboot, Retroboot, Bendisboot) of the property and that's not counting the New 52 versions.

DC doesn’t give anything outside the Justice League any love, and brands every possible team w. the JLA name.

A bunch of characters on a space adventure? Justice League Odyssey.
A magical storyline? Justice League Dark.

The Titans will on again off again get the spotlight, but they’re in a league of their own no pun intended, and they have a built in Batman connection w. Dick.

    And yeah, that Batman connection.

Harley Quinn shoehorned into Birds of Prey was panned by fans.

Batman founded the Outsiders yeah, but not every new Outsiders book needs to have him in it, or be ninety percent the Batfamily, but every new book is a combination of those two things.

Look at the current Outsiders book; Fans have repeatedly pointed out the story was better suited to The Terrifics, but DC went the way of the Bat.

DC doesn’t trust its own product.

Have we got Justice League Titans yet? That feels like something we should have gotten by now.

^^^They've been filling in for the missing Justice league if that’s what you mean.

I was always a DC fan first, but they are a shadow of who they used to be. They have lost too many big names and it shows. I feel like the owners Warners don't care about the comics side of business and are content to spend as little money as possible on talent there.

From my view, DC doesn't have a plan, focus, or direction. They obviously have the characters and universe but not the talent or leadership to bring out their glory.

Outside of the (possibly exaggerated number of) X-books, Marvel has Avengers and Fantastic Four. Team books do not seem to be popular.

Tom King got asked this and said that DC struggles to find top-tier artists willing to do team books due to the greater workload.

I think it was something among the likes of "If I asked Greg Smallwood or Bilquis Evely to do Teen Titans or something they'd laugh me out of the room!".

And yet, in the "old days" there was a time when George Perez was doing Justice League of America AND New Teen Titans at the same time!!!!!

The trick to great team book is chemistry between the characters. Too many modern writers think you can just shove a bunch of randos in a book an it will work. You need characters that work well off each other. The other big thing is a good team book is like a soup opera. Those all action JLA books just get boring fast because writers can't really do anything interesting. You look at the best Team books of the past they were equal parts action and character drama.
