    CURSED DAWN

The weird, the dark, the unknown, at the edge of sanity and time!

CURSED DAWN PRESENTS #9: CURSE OF V

    Plotted by EXCITER
    Written by JOSS WHEDON
    Art by MIKE MIGNOLA
“STOKING OUR FEARS WITH THEIR LIES”
To the world, V has no past, no identity, no face. Beneath the mask, there is not mere flesh, there is an idea - and ideas are bulletproof. This is the invaluable lesson V tried to impart upon Andrea Beaumont, but she could never fully make the transition into an idea. The Phantasm she created was always just a ghost of herself. In V's eyes, this made her a failure. He would need a new protege. Fortunately, there was no shortage of aspirants...
Many of the leaders of the United States, including the President, where recently killed when the Capitol Building was destroyed (see THE ELITE #16). In the wake of this tragedy, a fringe political movement calling itself the "Northfire Party" has gained significant momentum. Their prevailing ideology is that civil liberties must be stripped in order to ensure security. They prey on fear while scapegoating ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities and spying on everyone. But Northfire is not unopposed. V's mask has become a symbol under which protesters can unite and express their disdain for the repressive establishment. V's mask thus becomes a target for the burgeoning police state... It's clear what must be done. For freedom to survive, the people must be awakened. The Northfire Party must be defeated. There must be a movement. Will Tigress and Cheshire stand with V? Will you? Are you prepared to rid your life of tyranny? You are the resistance!

    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #10
    Plotted by EXCITER
    Written by MARK WAID
    Art by MATTEO SCALERA
“SLAVE NEW WORLD” Epilogue "BROKE LIKE GLASS"
The Justice League Dark managed to stop Eclipso from ushering in his "slave new world," but the victory was pyrrhic in many ways. As the shards of the mind-controlling Heart of Darkness that infected the planet are rendered inert, the people of Earth awaken to a realm without a Lord of Order. Dr. Fate is dead. The Helmet of Fate is safe with Zatanna, but after being forced to slay her possessed boyfriend Yorick in order to defeat Eclipso, is she ready to don the Helmet on a permanent basis? She may have to be, because her fragmented team needs a powerful leader to bring them back together, and it's either her... or Etrigan!
Meanwhile, Zealot has begun a reformation of the Coda, a sect of warriors devoted to the honor of combat that originated on her home planet of Khera. Azrael, colored by his own traumatic experience as a religiously indoctrinated assassin for the Order of St. Dumas, is highly suspicious of Zealot's new "cult." Will his investigation into the Coda see him come to blows with his one-time teammate? Or will he be the next convert?
And while Amethyst desperately tries to track down Swamp Thing to help the flora of Gem World, Lobo returns to his roots as a bounty hunter. But who put a bounty on Kratos, the God of War? And how's Lobo going to collect it?

    SENTINELS OF MAGIC #8
    Plot by NX01A
    Script by MIKE CAREY
    Art by TRAVIS CHAREST
Cover by STEPHEN R. BISSETTE & JOHN TOTLEBEN
"HEROES FOR GHOSTS" Part Two “DARK SARCASM”
Theme song: Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall
    • SHELLY KENMORE is back in a new body thanks to the M-Dial: a long lost prototype of SHADE the CHANGING MAN's reality-altering M-Vest! Can she handle the random abilities it bestows upon her when she dials M-A-D? She'd better stick to the force fields she creates by dialing D-A-M. At least she is with her husband and son again in body, mind, and soul.
    • A.R.G.U.S. wants its agent back on the job... or do they just want Shelly's M-Dial? They've managed to lose track of her original dead body, by the way.
    • MITCH SHELLEY has his body and mind back but information about his past from DOCTOR MIST casts some doubt as to the location of RESURRECTION MAN's soul.
    • A rag tag band of magic-wielding teenagers assaults the House of Mists in order to retrieve the artifacts stolen by the BLACK ORCHID-splattered Doctor 13 flesh golem, artifacts that belonged to their deceased parents and dead tutors! Since the punks won't listen to much less respect their arcane elders, BLOODWYND summons the ghosts of some folks they WILL listen to!
    • And even as the mystic mansion rocks around her, URANIA the ELEMENT GIRL rocks back and forth in the fetal position in a corner of her smouldering bedroom as she whispers the same words to herself over and over again, "...the serpent that never dies... the serpent that never dies..."

    BADMEN INC. #10
    Written by BRIAN K. VAUGHAN
    Plot by GLOBAL HONORED
    Art by MARCOS MARTIN
    Variant Cover by NICOLA SCOTT
    “BRAKE FOR THE NEW COLOSSUS”
    • The skinny: Floyd Lawton and Thomas Blake, formerly known (in the future, I know it's confusing) as the costumed "heroes" Deadshot and Catman, now proprietors of their very own private detective agency located in the heart of the gritty 1970's NYC scene...get their latest case, surprisingly enough, paid for by the very NYPD that prefers nothing more than busting their balls and giving them grief, except for maybe railroading minorities and taking bribes that is. So what would cause the Fuzz to hand over a job to Badmen Inc.? Two Words: Immig - Ration!
    • Ellis Island hasn't taken the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free since 1954. Somehow that memo hadn't reached the 31st Century and so waits an angry (forgive the stereotypical 70s characterizations) refugee from Marzal? in one bogus looking disco singlet, screaming (literally) for his citizenship papers. He is Tyroc, hear him roar! And if he yells any louder, Lady Liberty might crumble alongside his inalienable rights. And that isn't all, news crews are on the scene and the confusion is stirring social unrest (standard fare for the era) giving Floyd and Thomas little time to subdue the illegal alien, send him home, and get some sweet satisfaction by billing the man himself. But Tyroc might not go so...wait for it....quietly.
