Yeah I thought animation is the best place to go crazy with design. But I guess a 3d model like in GL:TAS is easier than hand-drawn animation

Yeah that Mongul was totally uninspired. He was basically a generic Darkseid knockoff.

Mongul is the Superman villain who smiles while crushing his opponents. Besides the weak design, this skinny yellow guy had no personality.

When I saw how scrawny and lanky Mongul was. I expected him to job HARD to Tomorrowverse Lobo. Lobo, who actually looks and acts like himself, surprisingly.

Mongul won the fight, thankfully.

But the creative liberties this team takes in the writing and art department really need to be reigned in.

That's funny - when I saw him I thought maybe they made him skinnier to avoid looking like "yellow Darkseid."

Honestly, I'm fine with the Mongul redesign. For all the complaints about originality, "big bulky guy with a large brow" was never the most creative design aesthetic for a villain in the first place. It's ultimately about whether it works for the story they're telling. For DCAU Amazo to look like a literal blank slate made sense for that character, but for this Anti-Monitor, I'm not sure what they're trying to convey with this design. Maybe it'll make more sense in the 3rd movie.
