Revisionistic intigration of new(ly added) characters alongside depictions of "classic" teams and characters tends to cause this kind of effect.

Same goes for homage covers in which classic characters are replaced with brand new ones. The high turn over and failure rate of new characters will just result in it looking like failed attempt at hyping them up as equals to the established ones.

"Of course Alpha Bladewolf is going to be just as famous as Wolverine, which is why we give him this variant cover immitating the famous frank Miller one from 1982."

Which come to think of it, is also something they currently do a lot with Kamala as X-men, likely with the same reaction a few years from now.

So that was indeed Maggotts slug on the corner of the previous image.

Somewhat amusing how Marrow is depicted doing the same "feral" crouch as X-23 not far off, given that some have in the past derided her as failed attempt at female Wolverine. Perhaps she really was an unintentional prototype of sort.



The problem is perhaps simply that the past 20 years did not feature a lot of "stand out" teams like those of the mentioned 35 years. Rather they were frequently just assembled and dissambled with no "handing over the keys" moments anymore and at random or more precisely by the preferences of the too frequently comming and going writers.

Furthermore of the teams formed, the members were primarily either those who allready filled the roster over the previous 35 years or were lifted from the satelite titles, as such allready represented with the first 35 years.

The way you talked about handing over the reigns made me think of Jean and at least 2 different X-Men teams at least partially made up of new members that she led.... is that a comment on the teams or jean as a leader and how she is not always give her due by creators. There was the one with Omerta and Wraith (I liked Wraith wish we saw more of him). And Xmen Red with Trinary and the former New Xmen (which has very little representation here but the were a "class" of Xmen and not given there own due. ) Gentle.

IKR! The only new one I spotted though was Magma.

Some notable exclusions: Revanche, Cecilia Reyes, Thunderbird, Madelyne Pryor, Hope

Also Sage, X-Man, Darwin and maybe Danger + New X-Men/Academy X and other former students like Stepford Cuckoos. IMHO all of them have more importance and reasons to be in this image instead of Starjammers and some others like Ms. Marvel, Feron, Cerise, Kaylun, Widget, Maverick, etc.
