It is from Busiek's Trinity series. Idea is that JL never formed and this is an evolution of classic JSA.

Pretty sure the guy talking is a variation of Triumph and the woman in the top right is Skyrocket from Busiek's Power Company.

does either concept NEED to exist? not necessarily.... would they make cool Elseworld/ Multiverse one-shots/minis? Absolutely!

JSD could be set on a world where JLA never formed and JSA got so big that the mystics formed a sub-branch akin to JLD... after all, we don't want them to get so bloated that they change their name to something else with the acronym ASS (looking at you, Roy Thomas)

JS Incarnate wouldn't have to be new to continuity... it could, instead, be retconned as an unseen-before-now precursor to JL Incarnate, of which either Calvin Ellis and/or Dr. Multiverse were members, revealed in a flashback sequence of some type

nothing treads on the mainstream team this way

but frankly, even if it did, maybe a complete overhaul of the concept is what's needed to revive some interest in these characters.... the further we get away from WWII, the less relevant a lot of them seem, outside of their legacy connections to more modern interpretations. it just becomes harder as time passes to get younger readers into a set of characters so inextricably tied to a time period in which most people they know hadn't even been born yet... so maybe a fresh take is what's needed, instead of trying to revitalize old glory to increasingly-dimisnihed returns on each subsequent attempt

I suppose because the JSA roster is so big, you can split them off to specific goals in JSA Incarnate and JSA Dark.

Time travel and alternate realities in JSA Incarnate. Roster would include Helena Wayne, Android Hourman, Powergirl, Mr Terrific, the Flash.

JSA Dark would obviously be the magic users. Roster would include Alan Scott, Dr Fate, Jakeem Thunder, Salem, Ruby.

You could. From the point of view of team strategy, assigning participants in each adventure that way would make a lot of sense. But from my reading point of view, seeing Wildcat's reaction to magic or Stargirl's amazement at time travel is something I'd enjoy.

Incarnate would be interesting because there's a lot of different JSA characters and concepts to play with. Dark never appealed to me with the League, since it was a bunch of random niche characters that felt like a League in name only.

Incarnate has the opportunity to use JSA characters (like Kal L or Robin) that the current continuity doesn't allow for.
