Seems the "The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit" is pretty common in the last few decades of Hulk storylines. The Cates run also used it.

Usually it's an imposter, framed or some other influence that takes over the Hulk (The Titan parasite, Tyrannus, way too much gamma in Vegas) turns out to be the culprit.

Think as far as TV-inspired runs go Immortal Hulk did it better (even doing a new take on Mcgee and Del Frye) although the Hulk made many more appearances (and was more talkative), and Ewing seemed to give a better sense of the Hulk's place in the Marvel Universe and a better knowledge of the lore IMO.
