I'm not happy that The Conners, The Rookie and Will Trent are all being held until midseason because it initially left me watching no shows on ABC during the fall. But that quick teaser for the new Tuesday series High Potential makes me want to check it out. BUT that's it. Otherwise ABC is dead until January for me.

I am NOT looking forward to Waititi's Time Bandits, I think for Apple. Sigh, must they despoil EVERY classic movie or TV show? Can he pull it off? Possibly, but his sensibilities aren't exactly the same as Gilliam's. And he has access to neither Sean Connery nor John Cleese, at least not younger Cleese.

Hmmm, Rings of Power season one got a lot of hate, but I don't think it was all deserved. Some of it certainly was, the casual ignoring what Tolkien wrote, mischaracterization of certain key characters, some poor FX mixed with the good stuff, poor pacing, getting timelines wrong, the Harfoots, (guys, if you had read literally the prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring you would have found out that little to nothing about the Harfoots that you did was true to Tolkien, for example Tolkien specifically says that they were the least nomadic of all the proto-Hobbits.

That said, I didn't hate it.

This trailer for the second season however has been ratioed into oblivion, with so many memes launched. "One wig to rule them all, one wig to find them, one wig to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them!" Surely they looked at their dailies and would have figured out that the same actor is playing Sauron again, only this time made up like an Elf. Which doesn't even seem to fool the other characters at all. Wouldn't Sauron, the master deceiver do a bit better at disguising himself? Shouldn't they have introduced him as Annatar first?

Episodic formula television does well in broadcast television because you can watch an episode whenever you want, and don't have to keep up with an ongoing story. It allows groups of people to agree on watching an episode more easily.

It's less about audiences per se than it is about how broadcast television works.
