Yes but he reformed like none of it was real. It seemed like more of a Proteus reality warp, once the effect was over everything went back to normal. I'm sure it hurt Thanos but it wasn't meant to kill him.

He reformed because he's Thanos.

Basically the board usually takes it as it is shown and with Thanos' description on the matter - he passes through areas of reality that have effects upon him, but he bounces those effects because Thanos.

Though it's worth noting that Thanos mindset does seem to play a prominent part in his survival. It's not nothing to him, it's dangerous enough that he'd not go through it if he didn't have a good reason to

Basically it makes the point that reality warping that would take other beings’ lives is something Thanos can endure.
