So, what are you guys' favorite appearances of Wolverine outside of X-Men and his solo series? I quite liked his run in New Avengers.

I really liked New Avengers at the beginning but the end of Bendis’s run was so boring. If side Xbooks count then Uncanny X-Force is hands down the best. If not the Uncanny Avengers for me.

What ever happened to Logan's white hot claws? Was that nonsense ever explained?

They fizzled out.

I'm honestly glad they dropped that.

Here's a mini project for you fellow Wolvie fanatics. Does someone have a list (to include issue date/year) of all the comics Wolverine appeared in that are on his birthday?

I waited a good while before covering this topic because I wanted to get a better perspective on the overall story (and I mean Death... Hunt... Return...) to see if there was really enough to feel like this was a worthwhile story for the comics. I mean you kill Wolverine and then what? You have at least 3-4 Wolvie types waiting in the wings to step up, not to mention Old Man Logan. So often in comics we are told that death is meaningless, so is that true here? Let me know your thoughts on the Death of Wolverine. Thanks.

The aftermath was botched. Maybe because it was because of Secret Wars, but Wolverines ultimately went no where with a badly rushed ending (emphasizing the "bad" part). While having X-23 as Legacy Wolverine could have been interesting, it was severely hamstrung by the dumping her into the role after a post-event time skip without proper development. Soule's remarks suggest that Wolverines was intended to do that. But again, it got rushed. Having Old Man Logan brought into the main 'verse didn't help, either. He ended up undermining X-23 by being the character all the writers used for the Wolverine Stuff in events and the Flagship, and the fact that other characters (to say nothing of the writers) only occasionally acknowledged he was a distinct character from 616 Logan just undermined his death, as well; they pretty much ran with the Old Man as if nothing ever happened, so it was like Logan never died in the first place.
Had it been one or the other (X-23 taking on the Cowl, or Old Man Logan arriving in 616) it wouldn't have been a problem, but having both was too much. Especially factoring in Inverted Creed, Daken, and the introduction of Gabby.
The return was an absolute mess. The "post-credit scenes" teasing his return were often nonsensical (Sentinels are attacking in India... but Logan has more important things to do than actually help). The various tie-in one-shots and miniseries were often contradictory, and turned the entire event (which was excessively stretched out to begin with) into a convoluted morass.

I absolutely agree with you. Botched all around. It could have been really interested in they really leaned into it and let the audience and fan "Feel the Loss" of Wolverine. Instead we almost immediately had Old Man Logan filling that roll - or an inverted Sabretooth - and we never got to experience it at all. And of course he was going to be coming back, that's a given, but even then it felt just messy. And don't get me started on the hot claws that have now been done away with. UGH!

This week I tackle the Hunt for Wolverine. I think Marvel kind of botched his whole storyline, but I did like that we got a bunch of characters spotlighted in the minis that we haven't seen much from & in interesting ways. I wonder what you think about these?

It's so sad that it came off so poorly. Could have really been an interesting and effective story. But then they just dropped the ball. Very disappointing for sure.

I know I keep saying this, but the Wolverine Lost Trail podcast continues to impress!
