Well... pre-Crisis Batwoman is a completely different character.
Yes, pre-Crisis was Kathy Kane and was murdered by Bronze Tiger a few years before Crisis on Infinite Earths. She is sort of in the same comic book situation that the Helena Wayne version of Huntress is.

Sophie Moore, Luke Fox, and Mary Hamilton have been cast:

Also, the pilot will film from March 4th to 25th.

So I'm guessing that Luke will become Batwing at some point?
Sophie sounds like a Season 1 love interest.
Interesting that they didn't just use Bette Kane, hmm?
-
The description and stuff makes it seem like she basically is Bette but with a few modifications to make things less confusing.
Having her as a step-sister makes her connection to Kate clear without confusing people about the Kane family tree. It also means the family members are more linked with each other, since I don't recall Bette ever really interacting with Catherine in the comics.
We'll have to wait and see but I suspect the essence of Bette is still there.

Rachel Skarsten cast as Alice.

It's exactly that. Based on all the info out there, it sounds like they've been pretty smart about how to rein in and tighten all sorts of relevant plot points.

I'm convinced she is, based on the audition script. She's still bubbly and eager to please, but with a thread of loneliness.

Just waiting on Jake, and whatever they are calling Kate's stepmother now.
I wonder why they are making another head cast when they presumably already have a cowl from the crossover (assuming the head cast is for Batwoman?).

[Edit] Just realised - Kate probably starts with a prototype mask and suit early in the pilot, before getting her proper one, right?
-
She didn't originally have a prototype mask, just surplus military gear. If they're making a new cowl, they presumably still have that cast somewhere unless they just lost it and had to remake it.
My guess is this is for injury prosthetics or something. Maybe even makeup appliances for Skarsten to make her resemble Rose more.

Oh, the face cast is probably for 'The Doorman', I'm guessing now, since that starts filming in April. :p

That would make even more sense.

So apparently a potential villain was name-dropped in Arrow, according to this article:

Cute.

Definitely! Almost the whole cast has been hanging out for a couple weeks now; Kang and Johnson were even on the same flight when they found out they were cast. And it's great to see them doing research at the same time.

Change of director?

Yeah.
More comic book research.

I'm not sure that means Nutter is out, only that Siega's in.
-
Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane.
David Nutter no longer directing.
