Hah! I remember thinking this back when I was writing a book report for grade school. Then the reveal of Dumbledore and Grindelwald's past came along and I slapped my head. Made me curious if JK Rowling read the X-Books.
It is quite standard to discover that the mentor is a morally ambiguous person. Narratively it represents learning when you grow up that your parents are not perfect.

If Harry had some sort of social conscience, he'd be like Scott. As Rowling wrote it, Scott's character is split between him and Hermione. Both of them ended with redheads, so it checks out. Add to that the fact that both Scott and Harry named one of their children after the assholes who bullied them in their childhood and it starts to get weird.
Charles and Erik are obviously Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Key difference is that there is canonical romance in the HP universe. Charles and Erik live in the world of slash fanfiction.

After HoX #4 it goes back to rotating for the remainder of the run.

So I have been busy lately and I am behind on most of the forums. What do we think so far of Scott in HOX/POX? I love his characterization and dialogue so far but he's back to being Xavier's general and I wanted to see what everyone thought about this. Is it going backward for Scott, or is it better for him to be Xavier's warrior than to be himself the leader of mutant kind?
Thoughts?

I personally don't view it as a step backward. Cyke got the job of LoM at a really crappy time. He made due but i don't believe being in charge of everyone is a state he wants to be back in.
If anyone has a better idea how to handle things, Scott has no problems stepping down, though we don't know for sure how much he knows or how he really views the whole situation.
Scott feels more comfortable leading the X-Men than the mutants. He did it because there simply was no other viable alternative. Xavier was in moral bankruptcy, Ororo was busy in Wakanda, Jean died, Logan is a big no.
He probably felt that if he didn't do it, nobody was going to do it.
I was so afraid you guys would get angry for that but it is true. I don't think Cyclops enjoyed being the big leader of mutankind. It is something he had to do and was good for, but I think he will be happier to not take that responsability for a while.
and I don't like to see on that role for a few years.

It is fairly clear to me Scott and the other mutants are being mind controlled by Xavier. So we'll see what happens when PoX/HoX are over.
