My understanding is that Mushu is the phoenix. Whether it's literally a reimagining of Mushu or a MCU MJ-style thing (a new character inspired by the original) remains to be seen,

Beyond all the hullabaloo with Mushu, here's an issue that could cause REAL trouble for the live action Mulan:
Even Mulan is getting political.
Liu Yifei, the Chinese-born actress starring in Disney's upcoming live-action "Mulan" remake, waded into the Hong Kong protest controversy on Thursday by expressing support for the city's police, who anti-government demonstrators accuse of using excessive force to quell unrest.
"I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong," she posted on Weibo, a Twitter-like Chinese social media platform.
Immediately, people began posting #BoycottMulan on Twitter -- which is banned in China. Hours later, the hashtag was trending in Hong Kong and the United States with 37,700 tweets posted at time of writing. Twitter users accused the actress of supporting police brutality, and called out the fact that she's an American citizen.
"Liu is a naturalized American citizen. It must be nice. Meanwhile she pisses on people fighting for democracy," one person tweeted.
Saw a bit about that. Have wondered how it would affect things, if at all.

I've been keeping an eye on the whole thing in regards to the proposed boycotts and stuff. I wrote my piece here: http://www.fairytalefandom.com/2019/12/mulan-trailer-breakdown.html

It's possible Liu Yifei only said what she said because she was forced to by the Chinese government.

That is true. However, people may have trouble understanding that because Liu Yifei (aka Crystal Liu) is technically a naturalized American citizen. She probably still has enough ties to China through family and career that it would be a bad idea to cross the Chinese government.

Mulan is coming to Disney Plus.
-
30 bucks to rent the movie seems like a bit much. 20 I could work with, 30 though... think ill wait till its unlocked on Disney plus for everyone.
@Agent Z what is that link for? The page it took me to is people talking about defunding the police and "Gun Nut" libertarians. If there's something about Mulan I missed it.

I dunno. Seems like target market is families. A family of four could hardly get out of the theatre without dropping $75 in tickets and concessions. $30 at home seems like a decent alternative under the circumstances.

I'm sure some people will be fine with it. Question if you pay the 30 does it stay unlocked on your disney plus forever? Or do you get it for 24hours and thats it?

Dishonor on Disney's cows!
