Exactly. Snarkily pointing out an unfair situation by referring to a more familiar unfair situation, when both have the same root cause based in the same old misogynistic, anti-sexual expression bullcrap.

I get that. However, it remains a phrase used almost exclusively to refer to or imply sexual assault, or at the very least, sexual harassment.
I get that. However, it remains a phrase used almost exclusively to refer to or imply sexual assault, or at the very least, sexual harassment.
I am using it satirically, using a tongue-in-cheek but valid comparison of statements to make an uncomfortable point that needs to be made. In context, it is a direct comparison between an excuse for sexual harassment that minimizes and denigrates women into sexual objects based on toxic ideals and repressed sexuality expressing as misogyny and an excuse that The Dark Lady is inappropriate for an event solely because it has a dancers pole, which is minimizing and denigrating the venue as a ‘sex club’ based on toxic ideals and repressed sexuality expressing as (hopefully) unintentional homophobia. Which is rooted in misogyny...
This isn’t hard.
Basically, saying that the club somehow deserved to be screwed over - used and tossed aside once the campaign got what it wanted from them - is based in the same toxically repressed mentality that deems a woman dressed ‘inappropriately’ as ‘asking for it’. The same mentality that says that a ‘trashy’ girl is somehow less than a ‘classy’ girl, and ‘deserves’ what happens to her. And make no mistake...the Buttiegieg campaign did exactly that: used the club for its own gain, and tossed it aside for something ‘respectable’ once it had what it wanted. Both situations are bullshit based in anti-sexual expression nonsense and that stems from right wing, fundamentalist conservatives like the core of the Republican Party and have seeped into the public consciousness thanks to concentrated efforts by theocrats to control people by condemning and dehumanizing any sexual expression outside THEIR preferred ‘norms’. A fundamentalist-controlled ‘conservative’ movement which insists on small government for everything except butting into people’s sex lives with their judgement and condemnation. All while happily offering protection to, promotion of, and profit from the tools, behaviors, language and other accoutrements which indisputably lead to violence.
Which ties back to my point about the skewed priorities in this country, where an ungyrated-upon dancers pole is somehow a dealbreaker, but threats of violence and ‘jokes’ about rape get you the Presidency.
-
Yeah I think your seeing stuff you want to here. Its more them just "Muh American conservatives"
This is purely optics and whats considered professionalism. If 80% of the public think a pole = strip club which (like it ir not) many consider trashy, then their not going to want to be involved. If your going to rail on perceptions and being sex-phobic then your going to have to target pretty much the whole planet, cause despite certain nations being more open Sex Workers are still treated like garbage irrespective.

Senators will be able to call for witnesses, but making them actually testify will require Republican support. And the cover-up will soon get underway. The president cared more that Jan. 20 marked the third anniversary of his inauguration than the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Well, of course Trump had to make it all about him. It probably annoyed him no end to waste time honoring a black man when he could've been rage tweeting or watching Faux News. Meanwhile....

Perhaps we shouldn't trust Smith with his opinions on the environment, because he is also a climate change denier who once argued against the phenomenon in the Kentucky legislature because, as he put it, "We all agree the temperature on Mars is the same as it is here. Nobody will dispute that. Yet there are no coal mines on Mars." As it turned out, anyone with a lick of sense would dispute that, because it's ridiculous. How could Smith have said something so completely stupid? Well, not for nothing, but he does apparently have a drinking problem, as he was arrested for DUI in January of 2015 (conveniently right after his last election to a four year term). And after initially trying to get his DUI charge thrown out because of an 1891 Kentucky statute that said members of the General Assembly are "privileged from arrest" during a legislative session (because you'll always seem sympathetic when you try and convince the public you're above the law), Smith was eventually found not guilty on the technicality that he refused to submit to a breathalyzer. He’s still voting like he’s drunk, though, with votes for bills to try and require women get a medically unnecessary ultrasound prior to getting an abortion, a TRAP law to close all the abortion clinics in his state (unconstitutionally), as well as one of those transphobic bathroom bills.
Brandon Smith has continued to implausibly remain in office, in spite of his arrest record, and the sheer audacity he has to pretend he’s above the law. Also, in 2018, he voted to cut the cost of living increases for teachers by 33%, but yet, he was re-elected in coal country with 73% of the vote. He then immediately tried to usurp the title of Majority Floor Leader of the Kentucky State Senate from colleague Damon Thayer. At least he failed, but still, take note that this wanker his some high ambitions.
Since we last updated our profile on Brandon Smith, he went on a hypocritical anti-choice tirade. He voted for both a fetal heartbeat bill that would effectively ban abortion in Kentucky at 6 weeks (before many women even realize they’re pregnant), and a bill to require doctors to attempt “life-saving measures” and to attempt to resuscitate an aborted fetus (even though by definition, any fetus that is aborted cannot survive outside the womb). The hypocrisy about his “pro-life” agenda comes when you realize that Smith no-showed a vote to guarantee employment protections for pregnant women, so they can’t get fired for having a baby in the first place. The same pregnancies he’s refusing to allow women to be able to terminate if they choose.
These sorts of logical failings tend to convince us that Brandon Smith might still be drinking.

That much is obvious. On Twitter and Facebook, I see lots of posts where people say with all sorts of conviction that history will not be kind to likes of Moscow Mitch and Republicans who bent over backwards to trash the Constitution by protecting Trump, to which I shake my head because the GOP doesn't give even one half of one runny shit about history. They're all about the short term fix of greed and power and could care less about how they'll be remembered years or decades from now, unless of course THEY end up writing the history and can fudge the truth any way they see fit to suit their narrative.

The op-ed wasn't false info.
It is ridiculous to think that if criticism of the candidates didn't come up during the primary that it won't come up in the general. This should be a rallying cry for why Democrats should do everything they can to make sure Biden isn't the nominee.
Sadly, Bernie Sanders has already apologized for it, and threw the writer the under the bus, which will only hurt his campaign. He's making the same mistakes Jeremy Corbyn made.
Trumps climate change speech is basically "Its all fake news, be happy and ignore doom mongers"
It's funny. Trump recently lambasted a plan for a seawall to be built to protect New York City from rising waters thanks to---wait for it---climate change, saying it's too expensive, patently laughable, considering the billions being flushed down the toilet on his border wall. Meanwhile, Trump calls Florida home after leaving the Big Apple for good (probably because the law was on his ass), a state in even more danger of being submerged than New York.
