Isn't Navarro Peruvian?
Yeah, the third and fourth games go quite extensively into Drake's origins (Which are sort of a mix between Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade's opening and The Goonies), and they don't line up with what we see here. While some video game movies have managed to stay within game canon (Assassins's Creed for example, but that's fairly easy) this doesn't seem to be the case.
Some speculate that Sully will gain the mustache at the end of the movie, kind of like how Bond didn't say his famous name catchphrase until the end of CASINO ROYALE, or Kirk getting the yellow shirt at the end of Star Trek etc.
Funny thing is, it was Nolan North's OTHER famous video game character, Desmond Miles from AC, who started as a bartender...
If they can make a big arc about Sully growing a mustache I'll be presently surprised.
It'll be funny if they do a movie on the Hassasins.

He is but I don't think they are gonna go that specific with him.
They pitched the movie as a prequel to the games so I'm just assuming he's a new character.

I just thought it might attract negative press to cast a White guy as a mixed-race character. But I doubt this movie is that specific either.

Movie can do whatever it wants with the Uncharted 1 characters if they have any as most fans are really attached to what the characters become in sequels.

Yeah, it can do what it wants, but that doesn't mean it'll be good. And seeing the history of video game adaptations, I don't really have high hopes

I'm pretty sure most people don't consider Antonio Banderas as a White guy, so there probably won't be any real backlash. They think of him as Hispanic/Latino, which is close enough to Peruvian to count.

Isn't Antonio Bonderas latinx? I thought you might have colorism complaints.
Not buying Holland as Nathan Drake. You need a young Ben Affleck type, the problem is Hollywood seems to have misplaced those actors.
Big fan of the games and while ultimately, the games tend to be better than the films, this looks fun.

They tried to make a film with Wahlberg for years, which we kind of have now, just not with him as Drake :)

Banderas is European, a.k.a. White. IIRC Navarro is mixed-race (part Incan). Latino/Latinx aren't racial terms anymore than Anglo/Anglx? are. And the terms Latino/Latinx tend to erase the complex racial backgrounds of Central/South American peoples

Uh, why exactly? I don't see how Holland doesn't fit.

While this may be true, my point is most people don't think of him like that. So there shouldn't be any expectations of a backlash. Did anyone object to him playing a Mexican in Zorro? Nope.
Navarro was more the muscle in Uncharted, Bandaras seems to be more of the Roman/Marlowe/Rafe type in that he's probably the one bankrolling things.

He doesn't really sound like the character, he looks too young, etc.
Yes ethnicity wise Banderas is Hispanic, which is not the same thing as race. Ethnicity has to do with culture and not physical and biological attributes
