He wanted to call them "The Mutants".

And Kirby gave him the stare and he named it the X-Men.

But because at that time nobody knew what a mutant was.
Sigh, here we go again. NO it is not outdated. Ridiculous. X-People sounds stupid.
It's an academic discussion because X-Men is too established a brand and too recognizable a name to successfully replace at this point.
That said, the best alternate name is X-Nation.
And, yes, "X-People" is clunky and cheesy.
X-Nation and Nation X are good.
Anyone who finds that it’s outdated is being ridiculous. X-Men is the plural of X-Man using the word man within the name in the same way that man is used in the word human. Hell the word man and men are found within the words human and women. So I suppose if X-Men is outdated, we need to change all of these words as well.
This.
It seems more so that the producer has an issue with MEN in general then she does the actual name X-Man.
That or she is just setting the seeds for "Disney's X-Men" to take the name X-Factor or X-Force in the future to distance themselves from the "Fox X-Men" franchise.
Either way if it's not handled correctly the decision will have huge blow back.
Why not drop the X entirely? How about... "Inhumans?"
X-Nation and Nation X are good.
That sounds more like a movement or what they’d call their own country than a team name.

I'm quite fond of Nation X as well. It immediately sets up the notion that this isn't just a standard superhero team; it's a movement with MANY members.
Absolutely not. X-Men does not mean 'male-only' and people that aren't actively looking for an axe to grind don't even think about that.
Also, if she's not happy with the brand then she's going to be poison to it and needs to find another job.
Flunky to the President: Mr. President the Brother of Evil Mutants are attacking in Madison Square Garden should we call the X-Nation to deal with it?
President: Why do we need a whole nation to deal with like 5 mutants? Don't we have an army of about 100 Sentinels laying around somewhere. Send those the property damage will probably be less.
Flunky to the President: ...Sir the X-Nation is team of mutant heroes.
President: Well how man are on the team?
Flunky to the President: At any given time? About 7-10 sir.
President: Well that's a silly name. Wish you had of spoke up before I already tweeted about how illegals formed a whole nation under a certain political parties nose! Did I mention Your FIRED!
Flunky to the President: I know sir... I know. * walks out with head down*

Do people have that reaction when they call 911? It's understood that reaching out to emergency services will result in an individual or perhaps a small group being dispatched to respond rather than the entire organization.
By your logic, this president would also be confused as to why women are showing up when he called the X-Men.
Better fix that typo, Dragons.
