And yeah, Heinberg didn't really used Nate in the best way he could. I've always felt like he should've stayed with the team for a longer period of time before having to leave; that would've made the farewell more emotional. Then again, he only did 12 issues (plus a special one-shot) for the first volume, so I guess he had to rush things. .
Children's Crusade gives a sort of idea of what the original plan was supposed to be before the second "season" of Young Avengers got delayed: Nate would leave to become Kang, Cassie would start to get closer to Kid Vision, and then Nate would come back in time (having been tricked into thinking Billy's life depended on it, as we saw in the Children's Crusade one-shot) and get into a triangle with Cassie and Vision, paralleling the Scarlet Witch/Vision/Wonder Man triangle.
All of this is there in Children's Crusade, but rushed. Some of the ideas for second and maybe even third series of Young Avengers got done while Heinberg/Cheung were on hiatus (like the "Young Masters of Evil" concept that got done during Dark Reign) but not in a full-fledged way because they were trying to save the property for Heinberg/Cheung's return.

Yeah, I read about Allan's ideas on my Children's Crusade graphic novel. We were really robbed of having the Young Masters arc done by him on the main book. It was supposed to be a Tommy-centric arc. :(

When the kid went ''wrong! Halloween is about candy'' I instantly knew it was Tommy, honestly. LMAO
Also, in the other scene he talks about Adam (who would be Billy) getting beaten up AND I'M ALREADY READY TO FIGHT WHOEVER HAS HURT THIS BABY!

Oh, I haven't watched them all yet. I wonder if the videos being up means this kid didn't get cast(which would be lowkey sad, he's so cute and definetely resembles Lizzie imo).

I *so* wanted Children's Crusade to be a Young Avengers-centric story, with about 98% less Avengers, X-Men, Magneto and Doom cluttering it up.
(There was some relevance to Wanda, Rictor and Scott Lang appearing, so I don't mind *some* guest-stars, to service the story, particularly ones as tied to the characters as Wanda (to Billy and Tommy) and Scott (to Cassie).)
Imagine if Wanda said 'No More Mutants' and instead of some Life Force retcon, it was the power of Chthon that answered her call, reaching out through her to change the world, and releasing so much of his power in the act that, for the first time in eons, more of his power, his essence existed *outside* of Wundagore than imprisoned within, and his spirit managed to wrench free and possess some poor slob nearby. Meanwhile, the arcane wards did nothing, because his actual body remained imprisoned as always, and there was this honking big power-signature from across the sea, where Wanda was standing, to 'blind the radar' to any warning jiggles from Wundagore.
Cut forward many months, Chthon having been massively weakened by this stunt, and slowly recovering his power, and wanting to get the hell away A) from Wundagore's vicinity, and B) not be near New York (and the Sorcerer Supreme and Avengers Mansion, where some of his greatest adversaries hang their capes) where his possessed tourist host hails from, so he's taken a suggestion from his host, that he allows to think he's in control, to go to Vegas and use glamers and minor suggestions to cheat at gambling. His power grown, he's now living rent-free in a penthouse, an entire casino pretty much enslaved to his will, living a life of hedonistic abandon at his host's whim, but otherwise avoiding the sorts of gratuitous displays of power that might attract those who would return him to his prison.
Enter the Young Avengers. Billy has a spiritual tie to Wanda. Wanda has a spiritual tie to Chthon. Every time Chthon gets a little overzealous and, say, turns a hotel staffer to stone for spilling his drink, or something equally dramatic, Billy gets a twinge through this second-hand connection. Cue the crew heading to Vegas to deal with Chthon, and eventually having to call Wanda in for cleanup help un-petrifying people and stuff (although I'd want the YA to deal with this possessing Chthon-spirit themselves).
Skip the Life-Force stuff, which was pretty much invented for this, and seems likely to never be mentioned above. Skip Doom. Hard pass on the rest of the Avengers and X-Men and Magneto getting involved. Too much clutter, IMO.

Wanda is an Avenger, her biggest crime was against the X-Men, and this is the book about her return. The fact that it even got to be that much of a Young Avengers story is a blessing. It had to be as big as it was, and I felt like it still managed to fit everything as much as they had to.
I agree that "the life force" is kinda, err... Chthon seems like an interesting idea, or maybe something with Mephisto, as the twins were fragments of him.
-
A blessing? It ended up with two members dead - Cassie died to set up FF I think, which is where Scott, who was resurrected in this story, next appeared (and then after that series, she was brought back, which set up Scott's solo book), and Jonas was axed because they didn't want two Visions running around (I guess they changed their mind a few years later, considering they introduced Viv). And the rest of the team disbanded, though it did come back a couple of years later with a new lineup.

Cute all though it'd be tragic if this leak ended up costing the boy the gig, he has great screen presence.
They weren't joking about how young they were going.
Speaking of casting I'm really kind of hoping if at possible Disney could try and get an openly gay actor to play Billy. I know acting acting, it should go to whoever gives the best audtion and some remain closeted for the sake of their future career but damn it'd make his debut so much more meaningful to lot of us.

The audition videos were ALL deleted from Vimeo, which probably points at them being true...

I think the Life force concept should be brought back with some slight retcon. Either say that it was chaos magic all along and create a connection to Chthon and/or Mephisto, OR you could say that it has something to do with the OG Demiurge, since he is basically the life force that spawned the universe as we know. Then they could tie that to Billy's future as the new Demiurge.

The video had been posted 2 months ago and they had been shooting ever since, so I'd say it's likely the role has already been cast by now.

While I would love a gay actor playing Billy, I think it might be a little awkward to make that a requirement for a teenage character, because you would be casting some very young actors, perhaps even teenagers themselves, and questioning them about their sexuality may feel inappropriate. I mean, it's not like every young person even has their own sexuality figured out, and even the ones that do may still be in the closet at a young age. A role like that could potentially put a lot of young people in the position to come out before they're ready or miss out on a role because they're not ready to come out, which is... not nice.

Honestly that whole thing from Disassembled on made no sense to the character because it forgot much that was true for her from the start. So there was really no saving it. Life Force wasn't really a retcon. So much as it was explaining how she was able to get a hold of that much power. It had already been established before that Wanda could tap into other energies (Simon's Ionic powers and the Twilight Sword), so that's not something that was put in at that moment for the character. It was an ability established during Busiek's run on Avengers. Chthon possessing her fully had been done before too so it could have made sense and was a theory for a time.
I'd like more Chthon stories in general and for him to become her major villain.

Update: the person who runs the account of the kid's older brother is now asking random people on Twitter who didn't even mention him by name to not share the video. Definitely sounds like damage control after realizing they messed up and shared stuff they were not supposed to.

He didnt even book it seems to suggest he wasnt cast anyway.
It would make sense to have the twins, so Wanda can go insane ready for Mountains of Madness. I wonder if that might mean Mephisto might be the big character they wanted to use....
