Green shoulders. While I like the black shoulders and it was cool the way other artists used that look to indicate when certain flashbacks took place, the green shoulders gave the costume a great balance that made for dynamic compositions.
Was that an anounced change or did Kane just slip that in?
Was that an anounced change or did Kane just slip that in?
I didn't know how the change had come about until I got GREEN LANTERN ARCHIVES Vol. 5, where there's an in-between change that happens from around issue 35 to 38 (in 1965). The green part on the chest narrows in so there's just enough space for the chest emblem and then the shoulders start to spread out, before we get to the ultimate version of the costume. Since Sid Greene was now inking Gil Kane, instead of Joe Giella, I wondered if Sid was just inking the pencils differently or if the change was something Gil wanted. That in-between costume is not a good look, so I'm glad they found a better solution.
I love Dick Dillin's art, but his way of drawing the headgear was always a sore spot with me. It only works if I assume that Katar is wearing an alternate mask from the one Kubert gave him. It's all in the beak. Kurbert knew how to do the foreshortening so that the beak seemed to poke out from the page, where the Dillin beak is small and flat. Plus the other thing about the eyes.
With the Khufu version of Hawkman, I guess I have to cut artists a break, because he had a history of swapping out masks--so if he doesn't have a prominent beak then it's easily explained away.
It may have been the way Dillin drew it from the front. The side seems to have a 'poked out' beak, but it may still be a problem for Kurbert fans.

I always liked the Superboy costume with the leather jacket and red gloves.

Perez' Hourman is one of my faves!
Yeah, Classic Hourman has an awesome yet simplistic costume
I would say this pretty much sums up my favorites.

All 10/10.

The original Huntress costume where from the right angle her silhouette could be mistaken for Batman's.
I almost always like purple and green together because it's an awesome color combination that's rarely seen in abundance outside of a comic book. So add Joker, the Riddler in his hat and suit and the well dressed Catwoman to my list.

When it comes to sex appeal you can't beat the undeniable beefcake of Hawkman or Aquaman in his long hair and bearded 90's look. Along that same vein comes Val Zod which takes the simplicity of Superman's costume and blows it out the water with an appropriate color change that matches his eyes.

And I'll always love those "impractical" super-heroine costumes I grew up with, anything with a high heel like Batgirl's yellow boots, excess jewelry like Donna Troy's mid-70's Cardi costume that had standard Wonder Woman bracelets along with inexplicable bangles and a long necklace that could put an eye out and Supergirl in puffy sleeves and hot pants is by far her best outfit. Also I have to say I miss earrings, especially Wonder Woman's they finish a look well.
There's also something magical about the Real Captain Marvel costume with it's braided gold cape details and double breasted shirt.
I forgot to mention that besides the colors, I'm a huge fan of Superman's red cape blowing with the wind.
The DC Trinity definitely have such unique and awesome costumes, and that's one of the things I love about it, that they stand out from the rest. Some characters wear costumes that just don't have that at all.
Iconic.

Loved these designs, too bad they're gone now. The gold trim and purple cape was a good look to me.
Other than Trinity these are some of my favorites:
Nightwing (pretty much any design does it for me outside of the original)
Batgirl (classic and Burnside)
Green Arrows hooded outfit
Red Hoods original fit
Cass Black Bat
Black Canary
N52 Flash (only when Manapauls drawing it)
This is my all time fav even if its extremely simple:

I also really really really like this Kryptonian outfit (I forget what it's from?)

Agree. That was a great costume for it to be so simple.

I have always loved Dr. Fate's look...

...and I'm not typically a fan of tweaking great concepts. But the "Egyptianization" of his design sent me Over The Moon!
