If Avengers, IG and Onsluaght weren't your thing I would recommend not diving into Cable and Deadpool next. IIRC it's better than much of the stuff coming out at the time but it sounds like you are going to prefer something more modern?
If you have UXF, Secret Warriors and New X-men you should definitely give one of those a go before going back to Deadpool and Cable.
I think you're confused. C&D is actually from 2004.
I know this probably won't happen, but I'm hoping enough people opt out of the massively overpriced Hawkeye rip-off omnibus and just skip it or grab the two OHCs to the point that it goes into the bargain bin next year. Maybe it will send Marvel a lesson. Probably not.
Yeah - I am definitely skipping on this one. Marvel was putting out a ton of great omnibuses a year or so ago but this year hans't head much that has interested me. And I lose ALL incentive when the book is as over priced as Hawkeye.
I tried mention the fact that it is far better value to buy the Hawkeye ohc's on the omnibus collector facebook group the other day but I didn't get much support. I really think marvel/disney will be keeping an eye on the sales numbers of the ohcs compared to the omni. If the omni sells more its as good telling marvel to charge what they like as long as they put the word omnibus on the spine.
I supported. People just cant seem to see that the two OHC are the same thing as an omnibus, just with a different wrap around

Also, given the option, it's the smarter option.

Yes, cheaper and - because of the size - probably more secure in its build.

Hence the reason you can get the Bendis DD ohc set for about $150 range and just omni 1 goes for $300 or more. I grabbed the ohc's.

To be fair those old ohc were pretty darn tight on the binding. These new books are all sewn and only slightly tighter because its smaller , so it really is as no brainer (to me anyway) to get 2 ohcs over this omnibus

You did, looks like the two of us with logic on our side wasn't enough to combat collectors ocd.

Oh yep. You are correct.

Got the Earth X OHC for 41€... I think this is a good price for this book?
I heard in the MMW-Board, that there is a black and white version of this book in oversized format... How do I identify this? Has anyone booth ISBNs?

I've never thought of omnibus collecting as great value. Judging the shell porn threads it's mostly OCD collectors that buy them.

picked up the Fantastic Four v3 omnibus for 54 bucks got it half off since one of my lcs had a sale. They also had Busiek/Perez omnibus for half off as well.

They definitely are not the best for value but most of them aren't to shabby in terms of price per page. The last couple of years has seen price hikes but for a good long time they were pretty good in terms of value. Especially when compared to anything else that comes in hardcover.
I remember back in the day we used to compare price per page meticulously between the different formats. Seems like these days it's just a given that omnibuses don't hold the same value they used to.

Reprints have become a real thing. That changes the long-term retention of value proposition somewhat. With one announcement your $200 used Omni can go to 50% below cover.

But, beyond that, the quality of the books has become an issue and this has mostly to do w/ their size.
I mean, let's face it: time will not be kind -- and I'm not talking about 40-50 years here; I'm talking about 10 years approx. -- to the bulkier volumes -- the Simonson Thor, the Stern Spider-Man (which I received w/ the ribbon already separated from the spine), and the Busiek Avengers.
The fact that many of you resort to time-consuming things like placing sticky-notes or carefully cut cardboard under the paper blocks to "preserve" them (b/c the weight of the paper in the volume clearly exceeds the quality of the build ) is proof of an inferior product. Why are you doing all of that work?
In the beginning, I loved the IDEA of the omnibus -- a large collection of issues in one place, the oversized presentation, all of that. But experience w/ these volumes has sobered me quite a bit on the many issues in one volume format.
Any other format is the way to go: Masterworks, OHC, PHC, and even TPB editions (I mean, I'll take my Avengers Assemble TPBs of Busiek's run over the new 1000+ page omni volumes any day).
Don't get me wrong: I love (most) of the omnibus volumes I've purchased -- w/ the exception being AoA, which is the worst volume sitting on my shelf (and I will never read Onslaught so I guess AoA will keep that title) -- but the other formats I've listed above are so much better for collectors or readers. Omnis to me now just seem like cheaply-made Cadillacs...
... but if you can't find it in another format...
