I was a fan of this book before, because I enjoy space opera. But this where I became a massive fan.

Pretty sure this issue was the first time I'd ever seen or heard of Lar Gand.
When I eventually caught up on his back story I thought it was needlessly confusing, and wrote him off. I finally gave Valor a shot years later (after it had already been canceled!), and that's the series that made me a fan of the character.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how the book would do once Keith Giffen left but Alan Grant more than picked up where Giffen left off. Each month, exciting and unexpected things would happen.
As excited as I was to see Lar Gand, I practically jumped for joy seeing Captain Comet at the end.

I know that feeling well. I was motivated enough to write them a letter about it. Which they printed. (Immortality!)

Legion of Super Bloggers review of issue #17 - Intro to Telepath, Lar Gand joins the fight against Dagon-Ra (the reviewer mistakenly calls him Dragon-Ra), and the Emerald Eye forms an attachment to (a much thinner) Marij'n Bek.

Always thought Lady Quark was a great addition to the title; if I remember correctly, Captain Comet didn't stick around for very long...?

Actually, he did. He and Marij'n developed a thing, which drove Garryn crazy. However, I'm not sure he ever became an official member. Dox had a grudge against CC for some reason. But he was always there.
And I definitely agree about Lady Quark. Great addition.

Ah. Maybe it's Garryn Bek or Lar Gand I'm thinking of...?
I really should be re-reading along with the blog, but there's just not enough time in the week... ;)

Telepath was also a unique character. He had an amazing, useful power but was such a spineless, fearful being. Very easily bullied and manipulated for which Dox took full advantage.
