So over the course of HiXMen in the last month or two I have been using Certain Resources to go back over some of the X-Men's lowest points in the last decade to fill in some of my recent knowledge gaps post-Bendis, along with indulging in some 'thank god that's over' nostalgia. I'm already familiar with Red but I perused the IvX debacle, the frankly bizarre IMO Bunn/Land book, Gold and Blue, and now I have reached - yes - Extraordinary X-Men. Woof.
Wasn't there some sort of BTS snafu with Jeff Lemire involving editorial mandate on this mess? Who the hell's idea was all this? It's just an endless rolling train of bad idea misery porn for years with the franchise. I mean, that was a recurring issue pre-Inhumans as well, but still.

If you haven't read Weapon X, you haven't seen how bad it can get. Greg Pak even said the book went under the radar at Marvel so he could get away with more bizarre stuff. I.e, he could do whatever because nobody in the X-Office cared. ALL the characters were ooc & simplified down to 1 base trait.

Domino = Airhead obsessed with money & wants to rob banks to get it.
Old Logan = Mary Sue
Deathstrike = Wallpaper with a couple of lines per issue.
Warpath = Swiss army knife with powers
Sabretooth = Useless Idiot before graduation to lame frat boy millennial.
Deadpool = Jar Jar Jinks
Monet = Creed's "ex." She was a useless addition -just around so Creed can get flustered & laughed at by Domino for 3 issues.
Omega Red = New jobber to take Creed's place after the latter's (partial) graduation.
This book & Gold were the worst of the bunch.
I can appreciate Bunn's Blue given what he had to put up with. But I loved & miss his Uncanny. That was the last team book that had my enjoyment & investment.

Bunn's Uncanny. Oh my heart, how I miss that run. I love Betsy and Erik together, and Creed/Monet was so fun. That Dark Riders story was dope.

Agreed. The ONLY thing I hated about Buncanny was the art by Ken Lashley. lol But I could tolerate it given the story.
I liked the atmosphere of the book, Bunn had all the character voices down, it had it's serious & touching moments, but was also fun without being corny & lame.
Plus all the stuff Bunn said he had planned for the serious was more entertaining to read than any of the books as of late. lol
Creed & Monet are two fav.l characters for me, and Bunn continued to do Monet good justice after PAD ruining (imo) of her in X-factor. Creed had lots of story potential and all of Bunn's plots for him sounded good as Hell and a seethe in anger at what we could've had compared to the garbage he's been since Bunn lost him. Except Bunncanny & Deadpool, all his stories within the X-Office have sucked for 16 years.
And the budding (or secret) romance with Monet/Creed was intriguing. I liked that aspect. it shared main core similarities with Buffy x Angel but had the snark & tension of season 4 Buffy & Spike.

I'll be that guy, then. Thus far I do not. I thought it was tryhard - Creed is good because of this dumb crossover and we're all cool with it, apparently! (Betsy would never) Creed wants to fuck Monet! She's Emplate! No thanks.
I've just had an aversion to most of those books since Kyle/Yost's X-Force, with the exception of Remender's UXF. I also don't care for Bunn's style of prose here. In the Magneto book (what I've read of it thus far) it seems a little more appropriate. I also didn't understand what their mission statement was supposed to be that would in any way differentiate it from the countless other past X-books like it. 'We're X-Men, but we're dark!' That take doesn't really work for me unless the overall framework of the book and franchise is also uniquely different, and that wasn't IMO. It was just more circular plotlines that had no effect on the larger mythos or status quo. Running in place trying to look badass.
But I did like Betsy and Magneto together, and I liked the Savage Land base. It was all very kooky. (It also seemed early on like they were trying for a Betsy/Magneto romance angle before backing off, tbh; I haven't finished it yet) It was far more diverting than the Inhuman stuff or Gold or Blue. Just a weird side tour in the franchise.

Well said on all of this. The stuff he had planned sounded great and I knew he would have delivered. He made me care about Creed when I wasn't looking forward to him being on the team. I had not seen Monet in some time and she was a delight. And Betsy is my favorite character so of course I loved her solo hero'ing issue along with everything else. Her screaming for Warren's help - my heart jumped out of my chest. Oh the joy! I'm gonna go read that run again...
EDIT: Just removed a sentence so as not to spoil powerpax's experience since I just saw you're not finished. Hope I was fast enough!

Not alone. I re-read occasionally, but sadly try to avoid it because I did like it a lot, and I know it ends prematurely with so much potential squandered & tons of things left unresolved. I would be down for a relaunch of Buncanny with him getting the cast back. Psylocke had some interesting developments & Bunn did say he'd address her body swap. Magneto was compelling but shady as ever. I think Bunn would've done wonders with Monet's struggles. etc.
Bunn just had good touch with the characters. Pak ended up with Creed & Monet and he did neither of them any justice. They were ooc individually and when they were together, they were awkward as Hell with Creed being written like a knock off of Strong Guy. I didn't care for Monet x Guido in X-Factor, let alone Pak recreating it with Creed as Guido.

Sadly outside of Monet, all of Lashley's characters in Uncanny were fugly as Hell. lol He did a damn good Monet & Emplate. But everyone else looked terrible.
And as I keep saying, if Bunn was teasing a romance with Creed x Monet, then he needed to look better than this!

He already has enough baggage, that everyone would question what she saw in him. At least make some of the attraction understandable. lol

Geroges Jeanty has the right idea. He should've been the penciler. Better than Lashley & Land.

Someone posted a link to an interview a while back just after he left the book. He wasn't too thrilled, it sounded. I'll try to find it.

It's covered in various interviews and tidbits on his tumblr account. I'll have to search & find the video where he goes into a bit more detail. It's the same interview where he reveals he didn't want Blue or the 05.
