Superman wouldn't exist in the movie at all.
Yeah, I don't really want to see a Luthor movie if Superman doesn't physically exist. It kind of misses the point.
Well he’d need somebody more powerful than him to hate, otherwise he’s just smart Trump. That rivalry is a big part of what sets Lex apart from others of a similar archetype. I don’t know, then again there was a lot of doubt about whether Joker could still be interesting without Batman. While that movie is controversy wrapped around in a divisive sandwich, I thought it pulled off something interesting and worth exploring.

More Superman Minus Superman. No thanks.
EDIT: There was a time I would've liked to have seen this, but back then I didn't imagine that WB's approach to Superman would be to focus on a bunch of peripheral characters to Superman without Superman himself. Therefore, I pass.

Lex in a story where Superman is peripheral or in his future, could be interesting.
Lex in a world where Superman is just a fictional character, I think doesn't sound like he'd be recognizable as Lex. Lex isn't Lex without Superman.
I'll still see it, and my interest would vary depending on the strength of the cast, but it still seems like the wrong approach.

I'd be into a Luthor focused movie showing how villainous he truly is. It should depict his rise to power and should feel absolutely Machiavellian. It should end with him feeling like the most powerful man on earth, with an end credits scene revealing that a certain bespectacled reporter has started to dig dirt up on Luthor and when the newspaper this reporter works for comes under attack in a bombing lets say, it looks like a job for Superman!
The 2nd movie introduces Superman as the main antagonist saving the city/world from something truly horrible Luthor has done. We'd see Luthor's major arguments against Superman as well as all of his envy and really explore that while also showing how over the top dangerous someone like Luthor is. This movie would be Luthor's fall from grace and would end with him locked up.
The 3rd movie would be Luthor breaking out of prison and getting full-on revenge. This one would give us the knockdown drag-out Luthor Superman fight we've all been wanting to see. I want an all-out sci-fi serious, power-hungry, rogue mad scientist egomaniacal Luthor holding the entire world hostage in order to satisfy his hubris.
leave the comic books behind but perhaps put a twist on the myth such as making Lois Lane his First Lady, but also the reporter who brings him down.”
Wouldn't Lois be, like, breaking every journalist ethic by doing so?

Although Batman was still in the film, if only as a child and his parents being more prominent.

I have to be honest and say I was hoping the Joker movie wouldn't do well!! I'm not excited about a criminal!! I know we like to make excuses about criminal behavior, their not to blame!! The criminal is the one you should feel sorry for , the victim is to blame! I can't get into movies glorifying criminals! Joker is nothing but A mass murder!! I'm only speaking for myself, I wouldn't be interested in seeing a standalone movie about Luther! He's just a high class criminal!!
