From Star Wars, Saga, Green Lanterns to Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Halo andMass Effect. Space operas are simply amazing grand scale masterclass epicness of story telling.
Discuss the genre in general, your favourites and recommend content! {sorry if its to general; bump the thread for a while at least haha if anything we can discuss how we will one day become a space-faring civilisation and the various facets of it for example the recent understanding for navigating space using pulsars https://www.wired.com/story/nasa-just-proved-it-can-navigate-space-using-pulsars-where-to-now/ }

Some of my favorite Supergirl episodes are where she goes to outer space, the one on Slaver's Moon, when Supergirl and J'onn J'onnz go to Mars, the one on Fort Rozz.
-
Nothing like the original Macross and Zeta Gundam when it comes to space opera.
One of my favorite genre i must admit.
-
While on the topic of anime I wish they make a Ghost in the shell type space opera movie/anime series or comic book even!
-
I liked Puccini's Girl from the Golden Planet.

When it comes to Gundam, my absolute favourite is still Gundam Wing. It's because the setting has so many elements from the late 19th and early 20th Century. I like how it not just follows one main Gundam pilot, but also a bunch of others whose stories interweave from episode to episode. Really need to get a DVD boxset of it.

Can anyone recommend me any good movies from the space opera genre? New to this genre. I have only watched Star Wars episode 4: A New Hope a week ago and I really didn't like it that much due to the visual effects and the whole cinematography itself (maybe because it's made in the 70s)

The Guardians Of The Galaxy movies are the most successful and popular ones at the moment. Nevermind the Marvel logo, they're not actually in the superhero genre.

There will be no Star Wars without Flash Gordon.

I'm still desperately hoping that JMS can one day get that Babylon 5 revival off the ground.
What a criminally underrated show.

The Alex Raymond comic strip and Buster Crabbe serial. Not the Sam Jones movie.

While I'd like to see it too, I don't know if I could ever enjoy a reboot quiet as much, knowing in advance where destiny was taking The Third Age of Man.
