CBR Chat
Howdy, folks.
As you might have noticed, we've eliminated the chat threads on the various other boards, as we felt that having dedicated off-topic discussions on each board leads to a fractured, almost tribalistic sense of mini-communities where it was almost like an "us" vs. "them" atmosphere on what should be just one big forum. Just having them all moved to the same board really doesn't change that, it just puts them all on the same board. So instead we've decided to just have one general chat thread for all of CBR's forums.
We understand that this is a bit of a culture shock, but you'll still be able to talk and interact with your old friends from your respective boards, you'll just be doing it in a thread with other people from different boards. Hopefully you'll make new friends, as well.
The rules for this thread are the same as they are for the rest of the forums, just you can talk about anything without worrying about staying on topic.

Brian see this is really whats wrong with the new CBR. Instead of coming into Rita's and saying , guys were changing it and gonna merge the discussion threads all into one ok. To make it open....your locking ...deleting and locking stuff ASAP. I mean was there ever a problem with Rita's ? I liked Rita's. It was a homage to what made CBR , CBR. Its like this place is pissing all over its past to force posters to do certain things. Its taking the fun from CBR.
-
This is...surprising. It's like instead of having our own clubhouse, we just have this one bar.
I know that's what you wanted, but still...
-
IAM Marvel Community will be relocating to the Bendis board.
I really wish it hadn't come to this.
-
Walmart has Generic Twinkies that taste as good as the originals. or So I found.
-
Agree with SUPER. Some transparency, warning, information, etc. would be nice. Otherwise, what's the point of posting if we don't know the rules because they haven't been made clear? Besides being nice to each other, it's really unclear what's allowed and what's not allowed. For gawdsakes mods, give us the guidelines first.
-
I kinda get what you're going for, but I don't think it was so much 'tribalistic' as just like a Skype call between you and a group of friends. Now it seems like it's just gonna be more chaotic.

You're just pissed there'll be no more Rita's Championships for you. :p

I mean I like bars and all, but the old chat threads felt more like an in house party.
Oh well.
-
As the saying goes ...this went over like a fart in church.
Again CBR means well....but guess what...the idea is kinda wrong. The discussion threads were groups of people who got along 90% of the time and had their own groups they clicked with. Its like forcing various ethnic groups together to have 1 place and be in peace. Not realizing they have little in common and won't.
Also I love the new CBR motto of...if there is even a hint of negativity...delete it. Honestly ...is this what you want to run now ? A comic book forum where even the legit hint of negativity gets deleted ? Because honestly you have a hell of a job ahead because its the internet and no one can stop every negative thing from popping up.

You do realize it's either going to become a clusterfuck or just no one will post here right?
Making an all encompassing chat is extreme

To be fair I could crown myself the CBR Chat Champion now. But being honest read my last post. Its really becoming insanely funny at this point. With this going negative will Brian be deleting it all ? Hell what is negative anymore ? I could post a thread joking about Chris Brown and the wrong Mod could come in and go....damn that is negative...let me delete that.
-
It's just a little excessive. We're going to end up as one forum only at this rate.

This
You can't delete every hint of negativity unless you want to be a tyrant

This is just getting weird. Not to be rude or anything, I want my Rita's group only, nothing against the other groups, but Rita's is family. We each need our own areas, it was not a "tribe". I honestly do not know what to do here. We had our things in Rita's we knew what the other was referring to, not everyone will know now.
-
Careful, Super. Don't want to get a temp ban for being critical. -_-
Hopefully that isn't a new rule I missed. I have been a member for 12+ years of CBR. This is the only time even I'm pretty much not wanting to make a thread in case it pisses someone off.
-
I understand your intentions are good, but this is not a good idea.
Each subforum has its own culture.
People in each subforum have different interests.
We currently have over 2000 users. There is no way all of them are going to be close friends. Each of them will naturally be drawn to the forums that draw their interests. That's what makes chat threads for each forum so important. It's easier to make friends that way.
This is not something you can control. This is how human relationships naturally develop. You get close to people over similar interests. Marvel. DC. Books. Music. TV. Film. Rumbles. Manga.
Either this thread becomes too unwieldy due to sheer size or people stop coming to the Community Forums to chat, resulting in a less united community.
My opinion. Feel free to disagree, but please at least consider it.
-
Hi ladies & gents!:) I love comics. :) Let's have fun! :)
-
I don't have an issue with one chat thread to rule them all, but I do wish the mods would at least answer our questions and address our concerns. You know, treat us as adults.

Thats actually the perfect way to look at it.
Clubhouses = selective, noninclusive, frat style approach
The Bar = All inclusive, happy hour discussion.
I vote we name the bar

I feel like there has been a death in the family. I feel that we will loose a lot of Rita members.:(

Except if the bar serves awful drinks (poorly mixed LITs.... ugh), then there's nowhere else to go.

I'd say more like a prison than a bar...

Rita's was an institution on CBR. Its one of those things this site had that was....unique. You had a discussion thread that spanned years...with various people coming in and becoming a group. Some left the group sure. Some moved on. But at the end...Rita's endured . Now its like saying , ya know what...we hate that. We hate what we had was unique for us as a site.

Even at a bar people sit with their friends. It's gonna be hard to talk to a few people when a ton of people are all talking at once.

They already lost a number of the Classic Forum who have said fuck it and left. I done got the invites to the site they started. Its just weird. Its like each move is becoming more and more alienating.

I'd hate that because I really enjoy your tongue-in-cheek threads. Especially the ones about Chris Brown.
This is really starting to suck.

Mini-ciommuties are still going to form, that's just how superhero fan bases work. They just won't be allowed to have their own chat thread anymore.

I feel like we should be making reference to story lines at this point, but probably we shouldn't if we don't want the ban.

Rumblers
This seems like a good time to remind you of Sharkerbob's forum.
I am seriously going to need to move Utopia there at this rate.
Mini-ciommuties are still going to form, that's just how superhero fan bases work. They just won't be allowed to have their own chat thread anymore.
Which doesn't make sense
It will become diffucult to talk or even moderate in these threads because every poster will be here
-
You know what? Rita's still exists. There's a group on Facebook. As far as I'm concerned, that can be Rita's. I'm up for finding out what this thing is.
So hi, other chat people I don't know. I'm Gus. Nice to meet you.

That is what is happening. Alienation.
-
I feel like we should be making reference to story lines at this point, but probably we shouldn't if we don't want the ban.
This is the first time since I joined in 2009 that I'm kinda worried about getting banned.
-
So who is the most non-offensive X-man that we can make an appreciation thread for, serving as the new X-Cres?
-
I mean I kind of get what CBR is going for, like in the case of Avengers and X-Men fans, where the Marvel forums basically became an all out war because of the direction the comics went in. But consolidating every chat thread isn't really the solution. Talking with a smaller community of people you have things in common with is just immensely preferable to this.

Well as it stands right now...a thread where I detail what I feel is wrong is deleted .....imagine that thread . No way it will make it past this new era of CBR. This is like New ECW. A lot of high hopes and watching it get dashed repeatedly with bad decisions.
