I'm tempted by the AC novels myself as I've always enjoyed the TV series. The Morse novels certainly match my expectations, I expect that the AG novels would exceed those expectations.
Weekend reading: another Agatha Christie Miss Marple story The Mirror Crack'd (1962) and, on my Kindle, The Argonauts of North Liberty (1888) by Bret Harte.
I should also be able to squeeze in on my Kindle this weekend the short play Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1920), the short sci-fi story Arm of the Law (1959) by Harry Harrison, and at least begin Arne: A Sketch of Norwegian Country Life by Bjornstjerne Bjornson (1858).

I find Christie's stories to be comfortable reads. Her strength was the plot and she always delivers there.
I have never read the Morse novels (though I'm a fan of the show), so I can't say how they compare to the literary Jane Marple and Hercule Poirot.
New reading for later tonight: Theodore Rex (2001) by Edmund Morris . . .
I read that and Wilson's first Theodore Roosevelt book, The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, quite a few years back. Never got around to the third one, Colonel Roosevelt, which came out in 2010.

I haven't read the other books you mentioned, Major, but I hope to in the future.
I haven't read the other books you mentioned, Major, but I hope to in the future.
I would recommend reading The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt ahead of Theodore Rex mainly because it has the author dealing with earlier years of Roosevelt prior to material in Theodore Rex. (And, if I remember correctly, some of those things will be mentioned in Theodore Rex, though not necessarily in as much detail. But it's probably been at least ten years since I read Rex.)
Currently reading The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombe, The Blade Itself was really good and different, currently reading Before They are Hanged
