Protege Exchange Program
From this pool of sidekick/protege/young heroes who would you have be their mentor in the DC universe? the only restrictions, they must be from the list and they can't work under their "parent" hero. other than that, the setting, genre, alignment, etc for their mentor are all up to interpretation. I tried to stick to characters that are new to the hero game and/or could most benefit from clearer direction, not all are well received, but let's try to match up the whole list. thanks :)
Emiko Queen (Red Arrow)
Jackson Hyde (Aqualad)
Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle)
Damian Wayne (Robin)
Jon Kent (Superboy)
Avery Ho (Flash of China)
Harper Row (formerly; Blue Bird)
Cassandra Cain (Orphan/Batgirl)
Duke Thomas (Signal)
Wallace West (Kid Flash)
Naomi McDuffie*
Kenan Kong (New-Superman)
Xiomara Rojas (Crush)*
Derek James (Sideways)*
William Wu (Roundhouse)
Claire Clover (Gotham Girl)
Alexa Antigone (Fuerza)
(*no "parent" hero)
-
They should all be mentored by Dick Grayson. All of them. Because Dick Grayson.
-
Cassandra Cain (Orphan/Batgirl) - Dinah Lance, honestly, Sin and her would kick some ass.
Claire Clover (Gotham Girl) - Artemis or Power Girl because anger issues.
Angela Antigone (Fuerza) - did you mean Alexa? Ted Grant or Guy Gardner would be interesting.

current continuity cass is far less established than she was pre-flashpoint, she falls under the needs clearer direction category which is why I put her on the list. Stephanie feels more independent and separate from Batman than she does, so I didn't include Spoiler.
Crush can't be mentored by Lobo because, despite not being her mentor already, he is her literal parent hero (or anti-hero or whatever).

Fair enough. In which case, the Linda Danvers Supergirl might be an intersting mentor for Crush.

Nightwing, Nightwing, Nightwing, Nightwing, Nightwing, Nightwing...
No, but seriously send all the bad kids who need a moral lesson to Dick Grayson, because he has experience in that and because when even Deathstroke do that, everyone should do that.
I wanna say Superman too, but he's too... Dad... for the bad kids to listen. He's good but his power level also means he's intimidating. They may listen out of fear but not because they themselves want it. You need someone that allows them to be themselves while also nudge them in the right direction, which is what Dick did with Damian.
The good, soft kids... Idk... they can go with the... realistic mentor... Batwoman maybe. Military-style. Dinah. Huntress. She's a teacher. Barbara Gordon.

Would have loved to have seen this explored further.
With Wally being mentored by Jordan, inevitably having Speed powers back too, and yes keeping both powers, literally becoming the Light-Speed embodiment.
Throwing incredible speed-force constructs etc. while his two mentors stand beaming proud!

I don't know what Bendis has been doing with him lately, and I definitely got a little bit of that vibe you're describing from the Rebirth runs, but in general I don't think of Superman as being all that authoritative. More like a cool big brother than a Dad.

I think Superman kind of aggressively sees people as equal to him, and himself as just a really active volunteer, which mitigates a lot of that "him bossing people around" thing. On the other hand, maybe it also makes him a little less of a viable mentor in general. Who's to say? But I wanted to object to the "Dad" thing, haha! I know sometimes he can be like that, but he's not always!
