I too am enjoying this run, I'm hoping that once Ellis is done that if the artist goes too, then I'd like to see Lee Weeks take a shot at this title.
Oh yeah, Weeks would be a fantastic replacement for Masters. Have you been reading the James Bond: Hammerhead series by Diggle? I've been on the fence about whether to pick it up or not
I absolutely love it. Warren Ellis is my favorite writer and I am a HUGE James Bond fan. To me it's the best book coming out right now. I look forward to it every month. The first issue of the mini HAMMERHEAD was very good too if you want to check it out.

I'm about a month and a half behind in my reading, but yes I'm ordering it, but I haven't had the time yet. Diggle is writing Thief of Thieves for Kirkman at Image, which has been a home run since he took it on. I'm sure he'll do right by Bond.

Awesome! Have you read any of the books? I'm a huge fan of the films and have just recently started getting into the books around the time this series started.

Oh cool. My only previous experience with Diggle was his Daredevil run, which was decent but nothing that blew me away. I haven't heard of Thief of Thieves before. How many issues in is it?

Thief of Thieves is an Image book by Robert Kirkman. It started out with rotating writers like Nick Spencer and James Asmus. I don't remember exactly the issue that Diggle took over with, but it's coming up on its 37th issue. It's all available in trades, and it's about a master thief named Conrad Paulson. An absolute must read in my waning pull list. Highly recommend it.
I am a huge Bond fan and am trying my best to get hold of the previous bond issues, I'm expecting great things. I'm also looking forward to Felix getting his own little series. Also, Thief of Thieves is on my list, then again, so are a significant number of other comics :P

Oh, I didn't know Felix was getting his own miniseries. DO you know when it is coming out?

6 issues starting in january
As said :)
Different writers though, who I know little about as I am new to comics, but should be good!
Ive been enjoying it. Although i hear Ellis is leaving the book after Eidolon and Ben Percy is taking over.
Ill give his run a shot but I aint too optamistic.
Theres also an adaptarion of Casino Royal coming out but i forget whos penning it.

What else has Ben Percy wrote? I've never heard of the guy before
He's currently writing Green Arrow and Teen Titans over at DC.
Those of you who have read the James Bond comics so far (I am still collecting them so I don't want to start halfway through...), do you need to (or benefit from, I'm patient) read Vargr and Eidolon before the Hammerhead miniseries?

I've only read the first issue of Hammerhead so far, but I don't think you need to read either of those two first. They are separate story arcs.
They seem to really be going for it on the variant covers... 9 for #1 of Vargr, 4 for #2 of Vargr. I haven't even looked at #4-6:P Plus 7 for #1 of Hammerhead. Jeez!

I think that gets me about many of the variant covers is that they are basically the same thing with some minor changes. If you are going to put out a new variant, at least do something original.
Caught up on the first two issues of Hammerhead today. I'm enjoying the series, though it does feel like more of a general superhero book to me compared to the main book with Ellis and Masters
I read them both last night too. I like it, but it definitely felt very predictable haha
There seem to be 20 covers for Vargr #1.
Yeah, though that said I did like the scene where Bond feeds the guy to the shark. Also nice to see his more sadistic side come out
I did like that too. It reminded me of the first time that I saw Casino Royale, when Bond is getting his 00 status. In fact, the Daniel Craig Bond is darker in general. I think that Bond should have that darker side, because we all do, and you would certainly HAVE to in order to do a job like that. Not that I think James Bond should be mega realistic. Hopefully you get my point :)
P.S. Should we have a spoiler tag in the thread name? I think that it is obvious that spoilers are possible, but maybe to be sure?
I definitely agree that I prefer a Bond with a darker edge. While I don't think his films are particularly good, I think Dalton's Bond had some of that darker edge to him as well along with Connery's Bond.
As for the spoiler tag, is there a way to add it to the title or is that something the moderators would have to do?
I have no clue. If you want to talk something about a particular issue spoil it or don't in your post. The lack of interest beyond the 4-5 of us who've chimed in, I don't think it'll matter all that much. I started collecting Bond as a comic because I was dumping Marvel by the bus load, and never knew Bond hadn't been done in comic form. Ellis wasn't necessarily a sell for me but I enjoyed it, and will until it's either canned out from under me as a subscriber, or the art makes the story turn me off. I only read a handful of comics these days anyway, my pull list of 50-60 in my hey day are long ovah.
While I was always a big fan of the movies, I had never really got into the books until last year. The comic started around the time I was reading Casino Royale, so it was kind of perfect timing for me to pick it up. That and I needed a pick me up after Spectre left me sorely disappointed.
I've actually never read the books, I have so many books waiting haha I also agree about SPECTRE. I thought that I was the only person who wasn't keen, it felt like there was barely any Bond action in it at all. Like more of a soap opera than a Bond film. I'm hoping the next one makes up for it though!
I think the difference between Spectre and say Casino Royale for me can be show in their torture scenes. In Toyale, Bond is torture and you really see the physical and psychological affect it had on him after. In Spectre, he gets tortured and it's like nothing happened. He goes on to have a video game style shoot out. Also, I felt they wasted Christoph Waltz, which in itself is a dealing breaking sin. That said, do we know anything about the next one at this point? Last I heard Craig was out
Craig wants out, but they want him in. He actually disrespected the role a bit in interviews, but obviously we don't know what it is like to be Bond :P As for storyline, no idea!
I imagine playing an iconic role like Bond can be fairly stressful when people keep asking you about the role, especially when people were throwing negative comments at him immediately when he was cast for having blonde hair, so I can understand some of Craig's frustration. As for the sequel, do you think they will do some version of On Her Majesty's Secret Service?
That would be nice. I really liked Lazenby as Bond, its a shame that he had a crappy agent :(
What did ever happen with Lazenby? Was the studio just not a fan of his take?
Nah, his agent persuaded him that Bond wasn't a good career move and that Bond was basically done, so he left the role.
So I just read Vargr. I think that actually, the entire new Bond seems to be a lot darker, not just in Hammerhead. I enjoyed it and expect Eidolon to be equally good. So many variant covers, which were very nice as bonus material at the back (HC), plus two extras not included which are just B & W versions of a couple.
Yeah, I think I was definitely surprised how brutal it got in parts, though I enjoyed the hell out of it. I think Eidolon is an excellent follow up to Vargr and I'm excited for the last issue of that arc to be out next month. How are you feeling about the Felix mini-series that will be out in January?
I've finished Vargr and I'm up to issue 8 on Eidolon, I have issues 9 and 11, but 10 hasn't arrived yet :P The comic book Bond is definitely more brutal, and I like it. This bond doesn't just put the enemies down, he puts them downs and finishes them.
I'm pretty excited for the Felix series as I don't think that he has been explored enough previously, although whether or not it works remains to be seen. Do you know if the comic books are supposed to be set after all of the films? Based on Eidolon it sounds like SPECTRE have already been met at this point and obviously Felix has had his shark incident.

The Warren Ellis stuff, at least, isn't set anywhere near any movies. It's a commission from the rights holder to adapt the James Bond of the books. Hence, as well, less gadgets and suaveness and more playing it by ear and getting the job done. And, well, the brutality that sticks.
My understanding is that it is basically set after the books, but in the modern era. I assume a somewhat modernized version of the books occurred, and now its this series. Felix's injuries imply that some sort of Live and Let Die (book) scenario happened. Of course, I kinda want to see modernized but still more book loyal versions of some of the stories now, in comic format...
I believe that they are releasing a graphic novel of Casino Royale either at the end of this month or early December that I assume will be a modernized version of the novel.
