[SPOIL]So Khan's back, huh?[/SPOIL]
Oh dear god that music choice is bad. Raiden and Scorpion at least look decent. Given how screwed up Overworld was after MKX’s story I am curious where they go next. Hopefully Cassie will be back.

Time travdel is involved
Finally. Injustice is cool but I can never get into it like I can with MK because I just don't care about DC characters like that.
The first 5 months of 2019 are loaded.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'd like for them to bring back more post Trilogy characters rather than nearly the whole roster being characters from MK1-UMK3. I'm not one of those to buy or not buy a game for 1 or 2 characters, but when most of the post Trilogy characters keep getting shafted in favor for the same Trilogy characters, it gets boring and stale. The initial roster for MKX just ended up being MK9 + 8 new characters & Shinnok. The only post Trilogy characters added that weren't in MK9 were Bo Rai Cho and Tanya. Personally instead of always relying on nostalgia, I think NRS should include more characters that debuted in MK4-MKD and see which ones can be improved upon. Kenshi, Tanya and Shinnok have shown what success a redesign and solid moveset can do for a post trilogy character.
I'm not saying get rid of MK1-MK3 characters completely. Obviously characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden are staples. Just make the roster more than basically a rehash of the previous games' roster and have more variety in it.
That was an awful reveal teaser. The music was so anticlimatic

I think those guys were all pretty popular to begin with though (especially Kenshi)
I always thought that Moloch, Drahmin and Nitara had potential. And Onaga was always cool.
The majority of the 3D era characters sucked and weren't well received which is why they get the shaft. Kenshi and Havok were the only characters from that era that became fan favorites. I would like to see Havok back.

Shinnok was definitely not popular when he debuted. He was pretty much considered to be a poor man's Shang Tsung.

That is true. But then again some of the fan favorites from the original trilogy initially started out as one-note forgettable characters until their second or third appearances when they actually got some depth to them, fleshed out movesets and character development. After MK3, Cyrax rediscovered his humanity and became a part of Sonya and Jax's team and Sektor formed the Tekunin. Beforehand their roles were simply just being assassins sent by the Lin Kuei to track down Sub-Zero and kill him.
In Deception, we had Kabal reviving the Black Dragon and becoming it's new leader. Noob Saibot being revealed to be the original Sub-Zero and the current one's brother. Ermac being freed from Shao Kahn's control and becoming a good guy. In Armageddon, Rain discovered his true heritage.

While those characters could be better with development I doubt we'll get it as it seems Netherrealm hates some of them. One of the members of the MK team has said on record how much he hated Hsu Hao. The guy was killed off by Scorpion in the opening pages of the MKX tie-in comic. Shujinko was killed off in Cassie's ladder ending, Erron Black mentions killing Kobra when he's up against Kano, Quan Chi carries around Moloch severed head in his intro, Li Mei got demoted to being a refugee and is no longer a fighter.

Actually with the exception of Li Mei, the characters you mentioned are ones I wouldn't mind if we never saw again. Aside from her, the characters I would mostly like back are Fujin, Reiko, Frost, Havik, Sareena and Kira. And maybe Hotaru, Nitara and Ashrah.

True, Shinnok wasn't as hated as guys like Hsu Hao but he didn't blow up like Quan Chi. Still, I remember people being fairly hyped for his return at the end of MK9 (or maybe it was just me), so I figured he was at least somewhat liked.
And yes, they need to bring Fujin back as more than just a cameo this time.
It pissed me off seeing Fujin in MKX as an NPC. He should have been on the playable roster.
If Fujin is not base roster this time, then Boon has totally lost his mind.
Super happy about this. Release date is pretty soon too.
There was a leak that involved the full roster and some story tidbits and newcomers. It's already right about Shao Kahn being the preorder character and this new mysterious female character so I suspect the rest of it is true as welll. It's really exciting.
I get the impression that this is gonna be Mortal Kombat does Days of Future Past... the current dark future with the undead Liu Kan, darker Raiden, deraged Scorpion and Sub Zero and the new generation like Cassie going back in time to encounter the younger classic Mortal Kombat incarnations.

Just a message though, I’m talking people going into the past, probably resulting in an Injustice situation where the nicer past Raiden fights the older corrupted Raiden.

It still seems like too much of a retread. This game shouldnt do time travel and rewriting history bc that was literally done two games ago

They kinda have to if they want to return things back to how they were, too many characters are dead or corrupted at this point.

They don't want to return things back. One of the goals of Armageddon was to bring back everyone so they can kill them off and start fresh with a new cast. They got the ball rolling with that with MKX. I suspect they will continue on with successors and only keeping a handful of vets.

That took place in MK 9. Raiden's efforts, sadly resulted into a much darker timeline than the previous one.
I wonder thogh, how they intend to settle things this time.
Rumors about who will appear in the game are circling the net.

Sounds good except Ermac and Nightwolf as DLC. Id rather they be base game
Include Mileena or else we riot

She met a gruesome end in the last game. It might be too much to hope for a comeback.

that means nothing. Everyone in this series dies and comes back

No D'Vorah? Yeah, that's the biggest red flag here.
This is exactly why I tend to take these "leaks" with a grain of salt.
Include Mileena or else we riot
She sure has a large amount of fans so the odds of her finding somehow a way to be in the next game seem good. (maybe via DLC if she's not directly in the main cast so it wouldn't matter if she's dead or not)
There are a lot of bullshit rumors going around. There was one initial rumor before the game was even revealed that knew about a strong new mysterious female character (which the trailer confirmed) and the pre order shao kahn so it's still in play but anything coming after that, just ignore.
The leak I'm mentioning about did give a full roster, I think it was 31 fighters along with Shao Kahn.
4 of them were new. One was the female character seen in the trailer that the leak said was called Oracle. Kotal Kahn's new first minister, a badass woman replacing D'Vorah's place near Ko'atal. Kano's son and some dark magician figure working for Lui Kang and Kitana.
It said every newcomer for MKX except for Ferra/Torr are coming back.
Johnny, Sonya, Kano, Jax not playable but still a part of story. D'Vorah's origin explored.
It had some returning 3d era characters like Sareena, Fujin, Frost and Li Mei. It didn't list Tanya but listed Rain. Mileena wasn't a part of the roster (this is why some of the "leaks" following this one also lack her)
It said Onaga was the main villain.
This is the only "leak" I'm willing to give a chance but we'll see in the following weeks.

It's Mortal Kombat. Being dead is an inconvenience at best. Especially if you're allied with the Netherrealm or Outworld.

Raiden as a sub boss? Guess they didn't lied when they said that he would go full evil.

This has been debunked by Ed Boon himself
Less than 1 week till the full reveal
