I like the metallic S, but I'm not sure about the white cape.
I'm really excited about this character! For one his costume is great. It's a cool spin on the classic Superman suit. And he's not just a black version of a preexisting hero. He's a whole new character.
Exactly, That's how it should be done instead of changing existing characters. Wonder how he is related to Zod
I believe that it's canon that Kryptonian from Vathlo Island are black. Calvin Ellis (Earth 23 Superman) was born there.
The World of New Krypton crossover (pre-new52) also dispelled the notion that Kryptonian are only white.
They originally wanted to go capless.
I have never seen a non-white Thanagerian.

Hawkgirl from Earth 2 is non-white, but don't know if she is Thanagerian or not.
Honestly, I love the cape. I think the suit would look unfinished without it.
Hmm, although I think this might turn into a cool idea, I'm not sure about the colour-scheme. I mean, that's basically exactly the same colour-scheme as Blue Marvel has, so the two characters look rather similar, now that BM has stopped wearing his helmet as well.

That's actually a plot-point tho'. The thanagarians are all incredibly similar - they are all the same height, build, etc. In fact, I believe Hawkman chose to stay on Earth, mainly because here he could be unique.
And the reason why the Thanagarians are all so similar...? Well... they're kind of space-nazis.
Sorry to break it to ya', but that's the reason.

Wow never knew that about Thanagarians.
More Val-Zod in World's Finest #26.
Val-Zod in Earth 2 #26 taking on Supes.

LOL, what is up with Val getting shot in the shoulders? Well one thing is great though, is that he's clearly being inserted as a major player in the Earth 2 world which is absolutely fantastic. I was kinda hoping for Val and Thomas to join in World's finest but I guess we can't get everything we want lol.
Am I the only one who thinks that Superman (either Val or Kal) looks great in a white cape? Justice Lord Superman and Val-Zod are great examples.

Wasn't a fan at 1st but it grew on me. Bet it will look even better on the pages of the comic.
Val-Zod has the best looking Superman costume in the new 52.
