The point was the progression of characters into adulthood. Iceman was a lame character in the beginning, Angel was lame character. They grew into more interesting characters with years of stories and adjustments. I am not arguing all the characters are good, I am saying you can see the potential in a lot of these characters as adult characters. But the fear of over aging their cash cows makes them never age up young characters like they should even in case where it is clear they are future like with Franklin and Valeria in FF.

The 05 characters were the ones that needed to GROW UP. I thought X-Men characters got new uniforms whenever there was a new writer on the books.

REAL TALK: Individual design is HARD. Uniformity is just easier (variants of the classic black/yellow aesthetic)
That being said, despite my general indifference to the time displaced O5, THESE designs truly give me LIFE.

They are thematically unified while their respective color schemes are appropriately distinct adding individual flare. This is the only thing I will miss if/when the O5 are removed from the present. The aesthetic.
If the New X-Men kids could get some tweaking similar to these designs (and get some narrative showcasing) I would be over the moon with joy. Particularly Armor. I don't want Miss Ichiki to be saddled with the "classic" legacy till the end of time like Miss Pryde.
But..... individual stuff CAN be done and it CAN be super rad. This artist does amazing stuff: http://melovecomics.tumblr.com/archive
His Julian in particular gives me the feels:

Bah. Ginger Jean.
I miss Finesse and Quake though.

I'd like that costume for Hellion if you replaced the white with red.

Tbh I really like the "gauntlet" uniform they got at the end of the book. Looks uncomfortable asf but very cool.
Still waiting for the day they get some respect. I'm cool with the academy X kids, the 5 lights besides the Japanese guy and Oya, and time minuplation dude, none of wolverine and the x-men kids beside kid Gladiator.

I didn't care for the gauntlets. They just looked chunky and ungainly.

Why didn't the New Mutants new costumes last?

Oya is literally the only interesting character in the 5 Lights besides Hope herself.
I honestly think it's just because a lot and most of these "new" characters are lame. Other than X-23 and Kamala Khan, I can't think of a single new character created within the last 18 years that screams interesting. That's just my opinion though.
X-23 is just a lame version of Wolverine, nothing really interesting about her.
Elixir, Xorn and Eyeboy are all interesting with unique powers.
