I think a lot of the JSA benefit from a Vertigo treatment.
I'm getting off track in this thread, but man all this stuff sounds like a damn golden ticket!
A mature take on Hourman; tackling addiction, dealing, the pharmaceutical industry, family, and big business........I'd read the hell out of that. Like buy every issue and the nice hardcover edition and everything. Crap, I just found the next book King should write! :p
So just to keep things on track, if a book is going to do a deep pulp/horror/noir dive into some JSA members, with an eye towards pushing them into the stranger corners of their respective mythologies, I'll grab that guest appearance. :D

There are a few stories like that, including JSA vs Kobra, probably the most recent example.

JSA vs Kobra was really solid! I forgot about that book.

I never bought an issue of Sideways in my life until the two issues where the New 52 Superman showed up.
I would probably buy anything if New 52 Superman guest starred in it.
-
There aren't many these days, but there were a lot pre Nu-52:
- The Question: Both Vic Sage and Renee Montoya
- Any of the New Gods, but espeically Barda, Mr Miracle and Orion
- Zatanna
- The Spectre
- The Phantom Stranger
- Doctor Fate
- Most members of the Justice Society and the All-Star Squadron: Love the golden age characters
- Booster Gold
- Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
- OMAC
- Animal Man
- Adam Strange
- Metal Men
- Doom Patrol
- The Creeper
- Metamorpho
- Ralph and Sue Dibny
- Rip Hunter

I bought Hawkman #27 solely because the old-school(ish) Justice Society of America was in it.

Didn't bother to pick up any other issues in that run.

I'm curious, what did you think about that particular issue, Major?
-
Legion of Super-Heroes (as a group or most individual members)
Global Guardians (as a group, or some individual members like Icemaiden, Olympian, Dr. Mist or Tuatara)
Booster Gold
Vixen
Teen Titans
Young Justice
Conner Kent
various characters with cool visuals that never get seen anyway like Firehawk or Kole
Who are some guest stars that can sway you to buy a book you wouldn't normally buy?
There were certain villains that would appear in books that would interest me. Particularly any villains that were on Challenge of the Super Friends Legion of Doom - Sinestro, Giganta, Riddler, Scarecrow, Cheetah, etc...
I would also pick up DC Comics Presents or Brave And The Bold depending on who was with Superman or Batman. Atom, the Hawks, Captain Comet, Black Canary and Zatanna were favorites.
For me, it has always been about:
Wonder Woman
Vixen
Peege
Superman
Empress
Body Doubles
Marvel Family
Linda Danvers
Maxima
Amazing Man
Wonder Girl (Any iteration)
New Gods
Soyuz (Any of the members)
Firehawk
FIRESTORM (Any of them but most especially Jason Rusch)
Dr Light
Any Milestone character
Fire
Ice
Captain Atom
Polaris
Any of the Divinities
Someone mentioned Hal Jordan in the JLA...I'm the same way, traditionally I haven't been into the team unless it has the Hal, Ollie, Canary trio, so...its's not on my reading list.

They were always a big reason I enjoyed Justice League of America in the 70s and early 80s.

Having Tom King write anything JSA related would be a great way for me to save my money.
