I never read the Static comics but I loved the cartoon. I love Jordan so I think it is great he is attached to the project if this turns out to be true.
This what Chavez looks like in the comics. That actress is considerably lighter not as bad as the Sunspot debacle in nm but yeah..here we go again..

Is Chavez supposed to be Afro-Latina?
not as bad as the Sunspot debacle in nm[/IMG]
Don't get the comparison. Sunspot is black and they cast a non-black actor. If those that are upset want to make it a colorism issue, so be it. But the Sunspot thing is different. It would be like if they cast an Asian person to play America.

I don't think so, just a darker Hispanic from another dimension.

Well yeah I get that it's different. That's why I said it not as bad. But there are similarities in this case which are obvious. A darker Hispanic being cast as much lighter.

I've seen the actress on Netflix. She is not light and looks Mestizo. Not comparable to Sunspot.
I don't get the complaints she looks like America.
Nooooot really.....America in comics looks taller, fluffier hair and more thick boned.

I'm in a similar situation, loved the show growing up though I did come across some of the original comics years ago. They still hold up but that could be my 90s nostalgia talking.

I think you hit the wrong quote.

for every image you find this dark, you can find 3 interiors where she is much lighter than this
This is not a sunspot scenario at all
(and, unlock sunspot... shes like a freaking alien lol)

the alien part makes this easy to ascribe to any group that Marvel want to market to. I feel they can do whatever they want with the casting.

Let's go back to elementary and compare things that are alike boys and girls. How are these 2 situations alike?
a) They're both Marvel superheroes. That's an easy one goooood.
b) Sunspot and Chavez are both dark/brown Hispanics and we all know Hispanic is not a race right? Riiiigghhht???? Yeah there are black Hispanics,White Hispanics and everything in-between. Because Hispanic is an ethnic group. Gooood..
c) The actors playing both characters are both considerably lighter than their comic-book counterparts. Good.
Now if ya'll still can't see the similarities in this situation. I can't help ya'll. And no she's not light in the comics she's featured in I have those comics. Seriously smdh.....

Does that same logic apply to Superman?
After all he is also an alien so why not have an Asian or Michael B Jordan play Kal-el/Clark Kent the original primary Superman....not the spin off alternate reality types?
