Trying to think outside the box (the box being Chris Claremont's stories, which would take up not just the top 5 but likely the top 100), I wanted to give a big shout out to X-Men #70 by Joe Kelly and Carlos Pacheco. Such a wonderful, well-crafted issue, back when Marvel didn't need to reinvent the wheel every time a new writer came in, with the story acting as a nice follow-up to what came before as well as a springboard for a new phase for the team. Near-perfect characterizations and dialogue and top-notch art make this my pick for how you bring a new creative team on board while keeping a sense of continuity with what came before (the following issue is also one of my favorites with a great Jean)

I really love those two issues as well!

Way harder than I thought...
Uncanny X-Men #101 - The Phoenix Force appears!
Uncanny X-Men #121 - X-Men vs. Alpha Flight
Uncanny X-Men #130 - I love the introduction of Kitty Pryde and Dazzler in this issue.
Uncanny X-Men #137 - The Death of Jean Grey (so we thought)
X-Men #30 - The wedding of Scott & Jean

The issue was very sweet but couldn't quite make my top 5. There are a lot of nice character beats throughout that book but my favorites are Jean dancing with Charles and Logan's letters. Scott and Jean's vows are pretty solid too and reflect their relationship to a tee.
