Yeah. He held on too tight and wants to control xmen by himself. Also he wanted a real life evolution to the xmen. But if he had his way who would be the X-Men. Honestly he would have everyone retire and move on and no one we know. But fans like certain characters and want them around. Constant chages would sour some fans.
Funnily on the flip side we have todays lone up where we have those new characters and the old ones and alot of unused guys cause we have to many lol.

I don't think he hated Scott. He was unsatisfied with the undoing on the marriage (Which does, indeed, read pretty stupidly) but he didn't hate Scott, I don't think. I believe the Jean/Logan stuff just sorta happened and wasn't a calculated plan.

Sure.

I wonder if the situation was reversed: if Scott comes back to life and Jean leave her husband and son to be with Scott...
Of course, Scott's haters (and Claremont) would still hate him, and say 'he's to blame for Jean's destruction'. But, hey, don't worry. Scott's fans don't blame Jean for having destroyed him. We blame the writers, publishers and editors.
And as I said before: Scott should have committed genocide.
Tony Stark - Fascist
Carol Danvers - Fascist
Scarlet Witch - genocidal
Captain America - Fascist
Beast, Namor, Black Panther, Tony Stark and Reed Richards - Genocide
Black Bolt and Medusa - Genocide
Wolverine - Mass Murderer and hypocrite
Daredevil - murderer and cheated on Karen and Milla
Clint Barton - stone cold killer
Charles Xavier - hypocrite and a master manipulator
They're all heroes, all loved.
Yes, Scott should have committed genocide.

You know at this one must wonder are there any heroes left in the Marvel Universe.

Let me rephrase... tell that to Gambit fans who have heard and read first hand from creators revealing their distaste for the character.

*Tell that to literally any X-Men fan.

I think Claremont just saw Shooter's face whenever he thought of Cyclops. Claremont originally wanted Jean to survive the DPS but Shooter said no way after she killed five billion sticks of brocoli. Finding out that they were bringing her back was what really did it...what they did to Cyclops' character was just icing on the cake.

Yes, but Scott's the only one who's hated by all (other heroes, other X-Men, x-fans, writers, editors)... because of "the Xavier death/ Maddie and the baby". **sigh**

You'd think a five years of this as the status quo would mellow one out a bit.
*Tell that to literally any X-Men fan.
Sure, but my point being that past and present creators at Marvel, while working for Marvel, have publicly stated their dislike for Gambit. So it's not just some made-up Kindergarten "My teacher doesn't like me" grudge.

A writer says he doesn't like Gambit. A writer makes clear that she has a great aversion to Cyclops.
Well, at least they were sincere. There are those who insist on lying to us.

It seems largely unfair even though Jim Shooter was a good editor back in the day he should have respected Claremont's wishes and just keep Jean alive so she can atone for her misdeeds and be spared the Madelyne Pryor debacle. Or just set Cyclops up with Emma and let Jean be with Logan from the get go and avoid the other later problem.

Honesty IS the best policy.

It's been thirty years since 'Maddie and the baby', five years since AvX, and hatred is on there.
