That's something I've noticed from back then, Marvel & DC's art were crap compared to McFarlane's Spawn art.

The artwork was the reason I decided to give it a try back then. The cover grabbed me like no other comic had. Issue 2 I think it was. Him sitting on his gravestone. I saw it sitting on the shelf and I believe I actually said "oooh" out loud when I grabbed it and had a flick through. Haha. Had the newer issues next to it; Overtkill cover - issue 6 I think? That was the new release for that month. Scooped them all off the shelf (#1 was the only one they didn't have), and that was my first ever comic series that I bought and properly followed, issue to issue.
Not sure what you guys are smoking but the latest issue was awesome. Finally some fucking action scenes, even if brief, still awesome. I loved seeing Jim/Spawn go into The Black again to save whatever the hell her name was. Probably the best issue in a while.
Anybody know what Jim`s first appearance is?
I haven`t read Spawn in years, but I like to start again.

I think it was #3 and he doesn't actually show up till #185 when Al commits suicide.
I've seen it said that #2 and #3 was Jim's first appearance, when Al used his powers to change his appearance. I'm pretty sure that was never supposed to be "Jim Downing" back then, just a generic blonde guy, but was apparently later retconned to be him.

No doubt about that.

Wasn't Greg Capullo doing the art on Spawn?

McFarlane did the first 35-ish issues.

Capullo's art was fucking grim. <3 that shit.
