Apparently, when Christopher Priest was doing his run on Black Panther in 1998, some people complained that he was going too tech-heavy with things like the Kimoyo Card, even though Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's 1960s stories had Black Panther be tech-heavy as well. Rather interesting.

pretty art. Can very much do without Storm or the ancient future stuff. I mean this isn't even BP anymore.
Hudlin had Morlun (again, a Spider-Man rogue) walk through Wakanda's defenses like a hot knife through butter, because that's what the story required. So he did. Had Wakanda's defenses been able to stop Morlun it would have been a completley different story. Far less interesting IMO than the one we got.
Anything can get old really fast, which is why I don't think a hero or place should lose or win all the time. Different stories require different outcomes.
Wakanda didn't lose that fight so I don't know what that has to do with Wakanda needing to be conquered. Wakanda was still unconquered at the end, and Shuri was saved from Limbo. We did lose wkabi and zuri in the process but Shuri has payed back in dividends in the MCU.
Again, when you have a team consisting of sumo wrestlers, werewolves, and gorillas you're probably not the best designed for espionage or even black ops. Solicits be damned.
I DO think in Aarons Avengers book their primary job is to gather infor for the Avengers.. but I suspect for their own book it's more standard super hero stuff.
I don't WANT "standard superhero stuff". And if a book isn't following the solicits, that means I'm ordering my comics two months in advance based on a LIE. That's two strikes right there.
"Give us your money, and we'll give you whatever the hell we want" is not a viable business model.

Absolutely true. I was running the BP board back then.
Here's my problem.
AoW is supposed to be (as the bloody SOLICITS say) "espionage, black-ops, and defense".
Exactly what about "reality-warper with a split personality" says espionage or black-ops?
('Defense' is vague enough to cover anything.)
This feels like Ultimates all over again. A book that's supposed to be about one thing, and ends up just being an excuse for the writer to play with Marvel's toybox.
That is fair.
Sometimes, I don't think writers know what "black ops" and "espionage" really mean lol.

It seems the "gathering info" is the spy stuff. I guess. But yeah, this roster doesn't make any sense from a spy stand point (as they all stand out horribly lol), other than Wasp and Roz

At least they learned that if you're going to call a comic Black Panther and....., Black Panther should be in the first issue. Lol.

This is fair. It seems like it it going the ultimates route and that's not the way to handle it. You can play with marvel toys in the background but adhere to what the solicits of your book say. If it's a book about spying and black ops then get widow and WS on the team as wellif they are going to fight reality warpers then get some people who can take a hit to face off against sentry.
Don't pull an ultimates abd completely contradict everything the book is supposed to be because they changed their mind last minute

Solicits are frankly wrong all the time. Not that I'm defending that mind you... I think whoever writers those things should be held more accountable for that and do a better job.
Just saying to me obviously this wasn't going to be an espionage team. But you can absolutely count that as a strike against the book.

In the end Wakanda didn't lose AvX either... Namor was ultimately beat. It's just that Wakanda took a MASSIVE hit in the process. That is the saving grace for things like this happening to Wakanda... good guys pretty much ALWAYS win in the END. Even when places like Wakanda (or Atlantis or Asgard or Attilan or whatever) someimes take massive hits, the super heroes pretty much always come out on top. As bad as AvX was, heroes won i the end. As bad as Doom War was, heroes won in the end. As bad as Infinity was, hereos won in the end. Etc etc.
It unfortunately does rob Wakanda of it's mystique... and unfortuately that's somewhat unavoidable. But in the least because BP and the heroes always manage to win in the end, whatever battle they may lose they ultimately do win the war. Though the price for that win is sometimes very very high as it relates to Wakanda itself.
The ship has sailed somewhat as far as the whole unconquered thing. ONce it happens once, it matters less whether or not it happens again so that pandoras box can never REALLY be closed again. Yes, at one point writers could try to bend over backwards to keep Wakanda unconquered but once it happens, there's no need after that. Wakanda still needs to be protected to a degree, but it stops being a defining element of the place.

AoW is lightyears ahead of BP and The Crew.
I don't care what the team looks like right now. If they are kicking ass and BP is the lead ass-kicker then I'll take 10-15 issues of mindless feats.

Yeah, that tends to be where I diverge from most BP fans around here. I don't have a "Rumbles Board mentality" so I'm not all that excited about feats.
I do, however, love me a well-crafted plan. Give me T'Chessmaster, and I'm a happy fan.

Did you like Liss run at all, more specifically Kingpin of Wakanda?
I feel like that is as close to Priest we have gotten since Priest era. He wasn't 10 steps ahead but like, 6 steps lol.

Actually, I've never read it. I probably should. :)

"Previews world" has #16s preview pages. He's up to his man hating tricks again. lol. Early instincts tell me a worthless issue, but who knows.
