DC Universe's upcoming Swamp Thing live-action series has found its Alec Holland and his monstrous alter ego.
Andy Bean, who will appear as adult Stanley in It: Chapter Two, has been cast as biologist Alec Holland, whose discovers a bizarre illness afflicting a small town may be connected to his work in the swamp. That revelation places him in conflict with dark, supernatural forces, from which he emerges as the elemental Swamp Thing.
That role will be portrayed by Derek Mears, whose credits include Sleepy Hollow, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Live by Night and Friday the 13th. Mears' involvement was first reported in September, but this is the first official confirmation.
Bean and Mears join a rapidly expanding cast that includes Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jennifer Beals as Lucilla Cable, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, and Will Patton as Andy Sunderland.
Based on the DC comics series, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana. However, she soon discovers the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets.
Blue Devil is a bit of a surprise, since he usually isn't associated with Swamp Thing that much. Cool choice though :).
Interested to see how they adapt his costume.

He was big in the mid 80s, no? Had his own series? Did some stuff with Firestorm? He's magic based, right?

Yeah, I think he wore a suit that transformed him into an actual demon with magical powers.

He was a stuntman and special effects designer who designed and built the Blue Devil suit for the Blue Devil movie. Filming on location a demon is awoken and magically traps Danny (Blue Devil) in the suit. The Blue Devil magic was tech in his suit that the demon turned into magic. Blue Devil made a deal with Neron in Underworld Unleashed and was reborn as a real demon.

Sounds like it will fit in Swamp Thing just fine. :)

I noticed Swamp Thing's arch foe, Anton Arcane, hasn't been cast as of yet. Although maybe the producers are saving him for Season 2 if it happens. Recently I've watching the reruns of the old USA show from the early Nineties that are being played on MeTV. And despite its limited budget, it holds up quite nicely. And James Wan, and Mark Vehieden are going to have one heck of a time finding someone to top that show's Arcane, Mark Lindsey Chapman, and his glorious mane of hair.:)

The first three episodes will debut on May 31. Though the season has been reduced from 13 episodes to 10 over creative differences. Warner media plans for it's own streaming service might have something to do with it

That's him .

Disappointed that creative differences have derailed the production of SWAMP THING. I am really looking forward to it..
Maybe they should have cut BLUE DEVIL from the script to save money on the budget.
