Personally it comes off culty because everyone just believes in it. Even though their have been several attempts with a similair concept most obvious one being Genosha and look how that worked out. Emma is the only character so far who's pointed this out on page but everyone else is just so in it like a million percent without much reason as to why.
They all just have so much faith in Krakoa it comes off kind of creepy. Like Iceman has preached Trust in the Five like at least several times in Marauders. Also that's another problem with it no one on page has questioned their so called "resurrection" process. Heaven and hell is a real thing in Marvel it's established when these people die their souls have moved on that's just a fact until it's established otherwise. So everyone who's died is a clone that's just a fact and no one on page has mentioned anything about that little detail.
Theirs No DOUBT that's why it comes off as a cult on occasion. IMO

Oh and Magneto's god Complex is aggy!
I was honestly expecting New Mutants to give us more to talk about here. Armor specifically said they couldn't/shouldn't mind control people into coming, which was good! But the twins first immediately leapt to mind controlling Beak to come, which is bad. But that's probably more on them being awful than it is a reflection of Krakoa.
And hopefully soon someone'll notice what happened and make the twins free Beak from their control.

very few black people? lol

everyone kissing magnetos feet or w/e. Idk I get the hype though

The "Fallen Angels" #4 preview touches on this, with Kwannon remarking that Krakoa and its residents ARE being led, the same way SHE is being led by the voice that commanded her to kill Apoth. In her words...

"Freedom in exchange for will," was the theory. Too bad the title is going dodo and Kwannon is being put on "Hellions" next year, possibly with her Krakoa dissent done away with.
-
"He gave you freedom, and took your will" Huh? What? What does that mean?
The whole "this place is a perfect paradise where you're safe and cared for, but in exchange for YOUR FREE WILL!!!!" is a really common trope. That was kind of what people thought was going on. But what does THIS even mean?! He gave you freedom, but took away your freedom? your ability to think for yourself? Huh?
-
I think it just means that now that Krakoa has become Xavier's Pinnacle of Mutant happiness many mutants are cool with replacing what they once thought of as their ideal happiness with Xaviers
-
That's one way of putting it. Before, each individual mutant might have had their own ideas on how their life in the world might become happy. Sometimes these ideas become shared between two, other times these ideas become common in a group. In Krakoa, whatever personal ideas a mutant might have about a perfect live has been overridden by a mutant-exclusive universal way, the Krakoan way of happiness. Xavier gave them the island where they could be free to live as mutants; in return they have to live ONLY as mutants as envisioned by Moira-compromised-Xavier, toeing to a particular culture and lifestyle exemplified by their own cipher-language and non-stop reveling of their own and each other's mutantcy. Freedom for will.
-
But why does Kwannon think that way? It would work better if she walked us through how she came to that conclusion and gave examples or something
-
Well, we do know that she equates what she perceives as the Krakoan led-by-the-nose mindset with her own overriding drive to follow what the mysterious voice said she must do: kill Apoth.
But yeah, no elaboration on why she would be very uncomfortable living in Krakoa (and frankly I don't care, save for that she DOES feel "off" on the island). But it might be a moot point once she gets transferred to the "Hellions." Maybe Sinister just recruited her via callback, or maybe she becomes a Krakoan convert. We'll see.

The pact has been made with Krakoa, though… Xavier is just his high priest in this story.

That exactly; plus, as you say, Magneto's unchecked god complex.
It's the religious denotations in regards to the five, the ceremonies and how Krakoa is talked about as their lord and saviour--that's not to say I don't understand or appreciate the broader context for why, in regards to Krakoa itself mind, but that combined with the connotations you can get from some of the aforementioned things, well...it's difficult to separate it once you see it.
(Also, sorry I've been MIA guys--I broke my leg! Great to see the thread's back on topic though!!)
But! There is a positive here; from what I've seen from previews and spoilers in recent issues there seems to be greater emphasising the matter of choice. That's a big positive in my book and much needed clarification. Granted, we still do have a lot of grey area to fill in the meanwhile, such as in regards to attitudes and the like, but still!
