Yep, a lot of the comic creators at the time were Jewish. From Siegel and Shuster to Lee, Ditko and Kirby, to Bob Kane and Bill Finger, to Schwartz, Broome and Gil Kane, etc. We owe half the comic industry to those gents.

Jewish during World War II era. No wonder they make superheroes.
BINGO.
Yeah, Gil Kane had Newman as Hal, Taylor as Carol, David Niven as Sinestro, and the Prime Minister of Israel as the Guardians of the Universe (subtle Gil)
Hal's Jewish, in case no one noticed ;)
Who was Katma Tui based upon?
Ooh! I love it. More Jewish superheroes!
About to start reading the Emerald Dawn minis, and the 90’s solo. How were they?

Not a fan of Emerald Dawn but the 90s solo begins well imo before going downhill circa issue 25.
So...that's where that water-head came from!!!
I find it hilarious how Sinestro's head changes with each artist.
David Niven would have made a great foil for Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor.

Very different Hal than you might be used to. The first issue is written by Priest, the rest by Giffen & Jones under Andy Hefler's heavy hand.
Just remember that all the stupid stuff gets retconned away immediately and the good stuff remains.
I will miss Hal being a Vietnam War helicopter pilot though. Wish more could have been done with that, but they were already pushing it trying to put Vietnam in Hal's backstory that late in the game.
If you love M.D.Bright's art. You will dig this story. The Hal & Sinestro stuff is great.

I know, right? Clearly Van Sciver went with a scary ass alien vibe when he drew Sinestro. By the time Geoff Johns was winding down his run on Green Lantern, other artists like Ivan Reis and Doug Mahnke made him look less creepy.
-
I think that's because by the end of the Johns run, his character had changed. He was no longer the space Hitler, now he was "the former mentor that Hal likes to butt heads with", so I guess the artists had to reflect that in his look.
