Are you talking about issue #59 of Grell's run? Because yes, that's canon.
Grell's Iron Man certainly had interesting moments...
I don’t think Luke as Mayor wouldn’t work. I mean, not only is he a convict, but an escaped convict, disqualifying him from political office. Now, I don’t recall if Cage was ever officially pardoned, but if he hadn’t, not even his time spent with the Avengers can gloss over the fact he has a criminal record.
Luke didn't need a pardon; his conviction was overturned in POWER MAN/IRON FIST 50.

Only thing I see working against Cage is he used to be a mercenary. A noble mercenary, sure, but a mercenary just the same. And it's not like the Marvel populace can read his book to find out about the noble part. From their perspective, he just has a vague history as a mercenary.

Yes it did. They just put the whole run in trade. I was surprised as I didn't remember it being that long.

Sounds intriguing. I recall Mike Grell more from his work at DC with Green Arrow, but this I ought to look into as well.

You should definitely get it. It’s a really good run and the art in it is solid.

Thanks for the recommendation.

At the end of the day, this will ALWAYS be my favorite Iron Man suit (along with my favorite IM cover logo):

It sure is. That’s the armor that one shoted the Hulk.

It is funny how Tony Stark keeps making more advanced, more powerful armor suits, but their relative power when compared to his fellow Avengers remains static. He did quite well against Thor and Hulk with his first, clunky, tin-can suit, and when facing them with much modern suits of armor, he doesn't do better, or he even does worse...

Another favorite of mine. The black and gold doesn't get a lot of love imo.
