Wow, no love for the X-Men Anime. ;)
I liked them all for different reasons. I don't have a favorite series wise, but I remember seeing the X-Men guest staring on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends when I was a kid and wanted to see the X-Men on the screen since. Of all the animated versions of the X-Men, the weakest was definitely Pryde of the X-Men (tho' I bought that on VHS when it first came out). XtAS was good for its time for adapting so many storylines, but the animation would tank sometimes (understandable considering how detailed the characters were - Rogue's hair especially) and while I liked Jean, hearing Scott always calling her name kind of got on my nerves. Evo and WatX I felt were interesting as the weren't so faithful to the source material for stories, but some episodes were meh in both series. Anime X-men's story was... ok-ish, but the animation at times was on point (Captain Britain was Madhouse buff).
If I had to pick one it would be XtAS Japanese version for the killer intro!

The only reason for that is because I never saw it. I'd love to, but I don't think it's streaming anywhere, is it?

The anime was so fucking boring.
-
It also had a limited release. I don't think I've seen it anywhere outside of G4TV.
Wolverine was a bit better.

I thought it was alright, been a while since it was on Netflix though. Not sure if it holds up on a rewatch.
... TAS takes too much beer to enjoy for me to call it good, but it's not all bad. Just a difficult watch as an adult much like Masters of the Universe, GI JOE or Transformers.
Ouch!... Harsh.
Wolverine and the X-men was the best of these three series...

... objectively, if all of them came out at the same time, etc., Wolverine and the X-Men is the best one.
Yep...
... It really captured the lore of the X-Men in all their eras. I would've loves to have seen a S2. Also, as someone that's very critical of Wolverine over saturation, it didn't bother me on that show. Yeah, he was the main character, but there were also so many mutants that were shown that it felt balanced out.
I hated that they made Magneto resort to false flag attacks(against his own people) to justify his war, when the humans in this version were obviously bad enough on their own.

I originally saw it in Japanese, but picked up the English version on the Microsoft Movies and TV on sale for 5 dollars. Streaming services are the only way to get the show in HD as physical copies are DVD only.

What were the plans for WatXM S2 besides just the Age of Apocalypse timeline tease?

Among other things:
Bringing back Colossus (and the corresponding gross Bobby/Kitty/Piotr love triangle
Continuation of the X-23 storyline, ending with her joining the team, along with Armor, Magik, and Dani
Emma's essence would be alive within Jean, with them having arguing until Jean brings her back
Main opponents would be the Acolytes led by Exodus, and eventually the Horsemen (featuring Archangel)

the animated series
Also the only series to have my favorite character Colossus appear in more than two episodes.

X-Men Evolution was a hard one for me to get into at first. I didn't really enjoy the first or second season too much. But by the third and definitely fourth season I was loving it. And of course it got cancelled after a really great finale. It took me a while to come around to what they were trying to do with the show. Still, I'm glad we got it.

Evolution was the best way Wanda and Pietro were tied into the X-franchise before they pissed it away with that AXIS reveal.

Oh absolutely true!

Wolverine and the X-Men felt like a great continuation of Evolution (even though I know it wasn't). And it's a damn shame it didn't get a second season. I'm hopeful that with the franchise back under one roof we will get a new animated series soon. But I really liked the show and give a pretty good run down here.
