Well the Browns aren't done trading ....again.
- They traded Danny Shelton (DT) to New England for a 3rd round pick in 2019. They also sent a 5th that season to New England to take Shelton. Since being drafted in the 1st rd of the 2015 draft , Shelton never played up to expectations. This will make the 1st round picks from 2012-2015 all gone off the roster for the Cleveland Browns.
How many times in he Belichek era has a team let a "disappointing" player leave, and they go to the Patriots and suddenly become quite solid pieces in their system? Like, I think it's called the "Corey Dillon Effect", but that's far from the only career turn-around.
And yet, the Browns went with Tyrod Taylor. A head scracther.

Not when you consider it's the Browns. ;)
I'm still trying to make sense of this one, myself. Like... do you not like any of the QBs in the draft this year? Is he a one year solution? Just...

Well, the Browns clearly didn't like the draft from two years ago which produced Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, both figuring to be mainstays for their teams for the next decade or more.
-
NFL needs to shitcan the Browns, let the league have a year off from their shenanigans, and open a new expansion team.

Well with Corey Dillon he never had any career issues with the Bengals. Hell he ran for over 1,100+ yards from 1997-2002. He was injured in 2003 and then went to New England as we know. But Dillon had really never under-achieved as we saw with 2 previous trades of Browns to Patriots players like Mingo and now Shelton.

If he's not a bridge QB then the Browns are a true disaster.
It's going down all over the league.
Agreed. I expect the Eagles, $9 million over the cap, to part ways with DE Vinny Curry anytime now as his fate was sealed when they traded for Michael Bennett. Curry's salary number is around $9 million and he most definitely didn't earn that money, cutting him would save $5 million. It's possible, if not probable that DE Chris Long and RB Lagarrette Blount will follow Curry out the door.

Dolphins release Suh. Great talent but he was overpaid for his performance. Timmons is also gone.

Are they making cap space for a new QB?

Dillon was more in the class of “guy who was talented but considered a problem and difficult to work with who fell in like in a winning culture and knew everyone meant business so he could trust the process”.
Culture is a big thing in the NFL and the Patriots have a professional work environment and expect everyone to do what they are supposed to and they expect to win every game. Right now the Dolphins are discarding good players because of culture fits and the Seahawks are dismantling an all time great defense because the rah rah culture there became toxic when a divide occurred between the LOB and Wilson and the coaching staff. Rex Ryan’s teams always had a curling because of how undisciplined they were. Tomlin’s team always seems to have a circus show up before every big game.

Dolphins also have a cap problem. The cultural improvement will be a nice upside as well.

One does not simply shitcan the Browns. Not when they are on the verge of setting yet another record for futility!

NFL NEWS
- After 12 seasons and being 2nd all-time in career sacks for the Kansas City Chiefs , Tamba Hali was released today. Hali's cut was expected as the Chiefs want to go younger on defense and he turns 35 in December. Hali rarely played last season and appeared in spots due to knee issues. He leaves KC with 89.5 career sacks and really performed at a high level for a long while as a pass rusher. (Its claimed he taught Houston pass rush techniques when he came in). The cut saves KC $7.7 million in cap space.
- The Miami Dolphins cut of Ndamukong Suh was more salary cap related as well as locker room for Gates. Suh was someone Gates wanted to move on from and with the Dolphins in salary cap issues (its why Landry was traded) , they were over $3+ million before Suh's cut. The move will count $22 million against the cap the next 2 seasons with $9.1 million this season and $13.1 next year.
- Oakland Raiders have released CB Sean Smith after 2 terrible seasons and signing a 4 year deal for $40 million. Smith was benched a handful of times and was ranked the 76th corner last year. Also off the field issues crept in.
- Longtime tackle Zack Streif of the Saints announced his retirement. Strief was a 7th round draft choice in 2006 who came in as a rookie and after 5 seasons of reserve duty became all-pro starter from 2011-2016. He battled injuries last year but at 34 he decided to retire due to young rookies pushing him for starting time.
- The Buffalo Bills are expected to pursue Sam Bradford . Making them the next team Bradford joins and gets injured on.
- Tampa Bay decided to reward one of their key players after a couple seasons of solid work. Cameron Brate (TE) was an undrafted player in 2014 when he arrived . In the last 3 seasons Brate has caught 17 TDs and has 1,556 yards and 129 receptions. Brate signed a new 6 year contract for $41 million ; with $18 million guaranteed.

Watching NFL Network and their free agency coverage. The Vikings have reached out to Drew Brees. Interesting.

Yeah, I've been seeing that Drew and the Saints are at an impasse.

Prince Amukamara and Rodgers-Cromartie have been talking to NE Friday and San Fran this morning.

Well this trade just came in. Buffalo traded Cordy Glenn away to the Bengals . Glenn when healthy is a dominant LT and the Bengals really needed offensive line help for Dalton. The cost of this trade was swapping positions in the draft as the Buffalo Bills will move to 12th (up from 21) and get in position for a QB. They also swapped positions in 5th round. The Bengals could get Glenn and draft Offensive line there.
