The thing that worries me about the Joker movie success is that it could give WB the wrong idea that we only need bleak and violent DC movies like it...
Because Aquaman and Wonder Woman's success means nothing now.
I just hope they learn the write lesson that each character is different and needs a unique tone. Variety is good.
I hope the fans also learn the right lesson: variety is good.

The only one who can truly stop The Joker is Batman :p.
It's important to remember that the first people to talk about the Joker controversy were those who had actually seen the film in Venice and Toronto, not the opportunistic media that kept parroting it or people on Twitter or whatever. I don't think those people had any sort of goal or agenda except reviewing the film, but it later spiralled into that.
As for recreating Joker's success, use Doctor Psycho.
On principle I think the most logical follow up is a Luthor movie, but a Psycho movie in the wake of MeToo would be really interesting.

Agreed. I don't want every film following the same template.

He looks the part.
"Nashton?" Isn't that from somewhere? Like the Arkham games? Wonder why they'd change it.

I thought that was his original birth name that he later changed to Nygma for the "E. Nygma" pun. And yeah, Riddler's Batman: Arkham Asylum file does mention his original name is Edward Nashton as well.

I think Chuck Dixon introduced that retcon in the comics some time in the 90's. I quite like it.

The funny thing is that a lot of media elites had earlier this year attributed Captain Marvel's box office success to the controversy surrounding the film, noting how much free publicity the film garnered because of it. Yet, in the same year, many of the same people were frothing at the mouth about Joker and as you said they only made the movie bigger.

So it's actually from the comics. I thought it sounded familiar.
I wonder if that means he's not The Riddler yet when this movie kicks in...

"Nashton?" Isn't that from somewhere? Like the Arkham games? Wonder why they'd change it.
That’s his original birth name. It’s like how Catwoman’s birth name is actually Selina Calabrese(she later legally changed it “Selina Kyle”).

New 52-wise, although Post-Crisis I think it was Kyle from the start. But that's getting into Catwoman's complicated and inconsistent origin :p.
